I need your experience PLEASE: Is it too much hassle for two families to stay at different resorts?

I think this would be very dependent on all of your mannerisms and touring styles. I have one BIL & SIL who for sure, we could do this and it would work out fine. With my other BIL/SIL, they are chronically late, and are the type that doesn't let you know they are running late or when they are going to show up. It would ruin my vacation if every single day I was sitting around waiting for them to show up. We could go do stuff on our own....but our luck they would show up at 11 for a 9am rope drop, and we'd be looking to leave the parks at 12 for a midday break.

If you think the actual coordination won't be an issue, then I say go for it!

Our stay at separate resorts was with someone who was chronically late. We would just tell her, "We will be at X park at 10 am. Text us when you get there." Knowing she never gets anywhere on time, we didn't wait for her.

I think if you will be going between resorts to visit each other, the best way would be Uber. No need to do Disney transport taking an hour standing on the bus when less than$10 gets you there in minutes. Really the only way I will do resort to resort travel now. Good luck!

If swimming isn't an issue it could be fine. And if you are only planning your park/meal time together and don't want any down time with each other.
The parents are staying on DVC points. DVC are allowed to pool hop. They can't hop to certain pools, but they can hop to value pools.

I wouldn't think it would be that bad to stay at your own resort. Just make your plans to meet up at a park or ADR. Nothing says you all have to spend every moment together.
I agree, that is my kind of vaca with friends or family.:thumbsup2 Planning ADR, some FP, some pool time but not conjoined at the hip..too much together time is not my idea of a vacation. We ENJOY our 2 older DS and value that bonding time, just the four of us!::yes::. We truly value those vacation weeks as one DS lives out of state and the other lives away at college most of the year. Enjoy!:goodvibes

For us, yes it would be a hassle. We are traveling with another family in October and one of the things the kids are all looking forward to the most is pool time together.

We did a family reunion (us, BIL And family, SIL and husband) in 2014. We stayed at the Yacht Club, everyone else at Caribbean Beach.

It was absolutely not an issue. We decided on a park each day, planned FPs together-- or in groups-- and ate together each night. When someone wanted to sleep in or go back for a break, they did-- cell phones were a Godsend for the "let us know when you're at the turnstiles" conversations.

We found different resorts to be a blessing. We were staying at OKW, DW's family at POR. As much as we love our family, we have different concepts as to how we vacation. We met at the parks, shared a few meals, etc.., but still had the time away to enjoy ourselves as well. As much as I and DW thought it was a success, our children told us they felt infringed upon, and would prefer to do our own thing on our vacation.
