This thread may be shut down/moved right away, but I feel the need to express an opinion. It regards DisBoards - the "Theme Park Attractions and Strategies" portion, in particular.

I consider myself a DisBoard vet. I've been around since 2011. For a while, I was a reader. I simply read the threads and tried to learn some strategies and secrets before my upcoming trip in April 2012. Eventually, I adopted a username and began posting. I fell in love with the boards because everyone was extremely helpful and thoughtful. Every post was replied to with a welcoming and helpful response. Honestly, it felt like I was part of a family here on DisBoards. I think that part of DisBoards is still here to an extent.

But lately, it seems like there are more and more malicious and back-handed responses. If I was simply a reader, I would almost be "afraid" to post an opinion or question at the fear of the response.

I think it all started with the FP+ and MagicBands. Everyone has such strong opinions that it's pushed people to take sides. When people pledge their allegiance or voice their opinion, it seems like someone from another side is quick to cut that person down.

That's not what these boards are about. It's about helping each other and creating a friendly environment. We're a giant family here and should welcome each other's opinions whether we agree or disagree. Look, the FP+ is going to draw a ton of criticism and favoritism, but why let it bring down the integrity of these boards?

Let's stick to helping each other, rather than throwing up our guard when someone challenges our view. Let's stick together and help each other out so that we could all have an enjoyable trip - FP+ or not.

That's my two cents.. and probably all it's worth, but I felt compelled to say something. Happy Friday!:)

:worship:

I totally agree with you. I think everyone should feel comfortable in sharing their thoughts and opinions here. Perhaps it's time for a separate sub-forum for FP+ and DME, specifically. I know others have mentioned it - it would certainly clean-up this forum a lot! :goodvibes

Agreed. The difference in tone from the last time I used these boards to plan a WDW trip to this time is astounding. I've been trying to avoid the FP+/DME/MB argument threads, but it's getting harder and harder to weed through them to find helpful and interesting posts. Bummer.

Well said. I couldn't agree more. I too love the DIS boards and I have been posting since 1999.
Right now, I seldom come to the TPAS area much. I can't stand the negativity and rudeness. The lack of respect for each other is just distasteful. I have been spending my time on other forums. I hope it gets better here soon

Bravo! I totally agee with you. I have turned into a DIS lurker because I'm afraid to reply to posts for fear of being rudely replied to. But I had to comment here! Thanks!!!:)

I absolutely agree with you that people need to handle their emotions in a more intelligent way.

However, this has absolutely been going on since I joined in 2004. Fastpass+ just gave another reason for people to complain. But every major change that has happened, good or bad, has elicited the same kind of passionate response. Not only that, but I've seen homophobic and political rants branch out from the most simple of subjects. But if you think it's bad here, check out the Community Board (which is where they will most likely end up moving this post).

But, again, I agree and I hope everyone will join in the big hug of life and just share their love of Disney!!! :) :hippie::love::hippie:

Can we please, please, please have a separate section for FP+ and MDE?

I'm not a disboards vet, and I've never even been to WDW. I'm planning a first trip for DH and I, and I feel like there is so much to learn! Which park do I do and when, what rides are a must see, etc.

But lately this area of the forum has just turned into a giant FP+ nightmare that has me even doubting my trip to begin with. It's an expensive trip for us to come out from CA, and while I know that DH and I will enjoy ourselves, it's frustrating to see post after post about how awful this is, there's no point in visiting Disney anymore, WDW is permanently ruined and vacations aren't fun anymore. I get that some people may feel that way, but is there any safe haven we can get from that doom and gloom? These posts inspire such vitriol that they're unbearable to read. One person states that FP+ was okay, and gets beaten down for it. Someone else posts that FP+ was frustrating, and gets attacked for it. It's maddening and not helpful.

I think I'll just have to enjoy other areas of the board, but find my park specific info on another site.

KUDOS to the OP!!!!!! I've been around for a long time on the boards - before the big crash of 2000. I hardly ever post anymore - and I have vowed to not read any more of the FP+ threads - 90% of them are just those who wish to complain instead of being helpful. I agree that it seems upon the start of the FP+ system, things on the board took a turn - and not for the good.

These boards have been such a wonderful place for all of us Disney lovers for many years now - and it was a true family - people helping one another. Let's get back to basics and our shared love of Disney.

OH - and I totally agree with the suggestion of southlakejr in that maybe it would be beneficial to move all FP+ and MDE to it's own location

The Mods have already stated they do not want to do this. If you have noticed, threads about FP+ and MDE have been dying down a bit since it was "officially" rolled out. That trend is going to continue once more people have gotten used to the new system. In a few months, a post about FP+ will be about the same as a post about using old tickets. ;)

Just don't click on FP+ threads and you don't have to see the fighting. No reason to completely boycott the TPAS, where there are tons of people giving tons of useful information. :thumbsup2

Totally agree. This is a great resource for Disney fans....let's all try to keep it that way.

I agree with you 100% OP.

I posted my PERSONAL opinion once when someone asked a question about what I would do in this kind of situation... which I will not go into... and I was called all sorts of horrible names.

I don't post on threads anymore asking about something personal. Those threads turn into high school all over again :) It's just sad.

Thank you, OP. I have been a reader for years and made the mistake of starting to post last fall. No name calling but some snide responses. I haven't even been reading the boards. The whole tone has changed, esp on the theme park strategy boards, from the way it was a couple of years ago. Today was my first day back reading the boards and you post made me feel better that maybe the tide would turn. Maybe instead of a fp+ board we need an anger free board?

I totally agree with this!! I've loved this forum for years, but lately it's been too much. If I was a first time planner, this would be scaring me away and making me nervous about visiting the happiest place on earth! The only positive thing about this is that it has spurred me to check out some of the other sub-forums I never had and I've found some interesting things!!

VERY WELL SAID.
:thumbsup2

I agree with the OP. The last time I visited WDW was in 2012. Before that, 2008. I went to WDW for 3 consecutive years from 2005-2008 and I used this board all the time. I can remember when the Dining Plan included tips!:thumbsup2

So we've been on other trips during the summer- cruises, all-inclusive resorts, etc. But our family would like to celebrate my our 20th year anniversary between my DW and myself. My DW wanted to go to her absolute favorite place on this planet- Walt Disney World! I voted against it because I wanted to do something more romantic and nostalgic, but the girl (45yo) wanted to go to WDW. So I was overruled. So we're all going down there.

So here's my rule when it comes to vacations: You make your own vacations fun. I've never done the new Fastpass system. I don't know if it's going to be good or bad, but I'm not going to let that stop me from having a good time. I mean, if I'm in a line for an hour, I'm going to have a good time in that line. I will just talk to the person next to me to see if I can make them laugh.

And I just LOVE the Brazilian groups, by the way!:goodvibes I remember the last time we were there- Goofy was out there by Space Mountain and some music came on and 100 Brazilians were dancing out there- along with us! We partied!

In short, relax! Chill! Don't let stuff like that get you down! Remember, some hopeless sap is sitting in a cubicle somewhere while you're sucking on your Mickey Bar, complaining about a Fastpass that expires in 15 minutes!

Geesh!:hippie:

Loved your post as we went for our first trip last year due to this girls (34) requests :-) I studied & studied leaving only the talent of my fp use in question. My loving guys listened to all my advice tho understood I was at the mercy of WDW until I learned the "trick" of fp everyone on this board had spoke of. We rode EVERYTHING we wanted plus some :-) The idea to relax & enjoy isn't beyond reach just because its Disney?! I do agree with OP on the harshness of replies at times and the info can be hard to find with so many whines yet the boards helped me a great deal so I hope nobody gets differed from going ;-)
