I was working on the snow drifts infront of my porch and garage every hour until around 1. The kids and I hopped into bed and watched a movie and then fell asleep. Now the drift blocking me in is more then halfway up my garage and about 4 feet wide at the bottom. I have no clue where to start it is so much. I am worried about my back too. My neighbors are all older so they are no help to me. I don't want to open the garage to get the snow blower out. I have no clue what to do. DH won't be home till Thursday morning.

What part of Ohio are you in? My parents and inlaws are in Lima, and my husband and I moved to PA almost a year ago from Dublin. I hope that the snow doesn't end up here.

I am Willard, south of Sandusky. I live in the a rural part so there is nothing to block it for me.

Is there somewhere you HAVE to go? I say as long as you have enough food in your house, hole up until dh gets home! :)

Right now we're getting the freezing rain/sleet on top of the several inches of snow from overnight. I decided not to snowblow the drive yet b/c I'd rather not have the freezing rain directly on the drive. It'll be easier to clear with snow and then ice on top. I'll tackle that tomorrow. Right now we're home, warm, have food and I wouldn't go out in this crud without darn good reason.

Dh is a pediatrician and they actually closed at noon today and won't reopen until Thursday morning!! They NEVER close. They are usually open 364 days a year!! But they figure that the only ppl who should be out in this are the ones with an emergency, and those should go to the ER anyway! If they stayed open, ppl would risk their lives to come to the office for a well check up!!! :sad2:

No there is no where I have to go. But I don't want it to get any higher on my garage either.

Then I guess you have to start digging if you are concerned about that. :(

If I had that task, I'd probably take a shovel and dig from the outside though....
b/c once you open that garage door the whole drift could fall in. :scared1: Careful you don't ding up the door with the shovel.

Hello Ohioans!!! I'm over on the far east side in Madison, up on the Lake. We are in the snow belt and it's been snowing a bit but the roads are just now getting covered. I'm afraid to go to bed tonight for fear of what the morning will bring. We already have a good foot on the ground from the last storm. i want SPRING!

Hello Madison...Perry here!! I guess we should expect this by now..we live in the snow belt..are we crazy?

Kids are doing their snow dance. Hope they make the call tonight so we can just sleep in tomorrow..

OP..If I were you and didn't have to go out I would let it go....Fortunately, I have a 17 year old who will shovel

Everybody stay safe and warm

Kathy

HI PERRY! How cool! A neighbor! Our Schools aren't cancelled yet. My brother lives in Perry, were are you? DH wants to go to Walmart.

this snow is crazy! we've got 6" so far and much more coming! Willard...we're in Mansfield :)!! Is there any way you can get the snowblower out the side door? Just a thought. My dh has used our 4-wheeler twice on our driveway so far...he's going to have to hit it every 2 hrs at this rate:eek: Good luck and stay warm! Its not worth hurting yourself over. Shoveling it by hand isn't only bad on your back, but it's really bad on your heart.

I am thinking as long as schools are closed on Thursday or 2 hour delay we can sit tight and wait for DH.

Let the snow wait till tomorrow afternoon. It seems it is supposed to ease up by then.

I am in Bay Village on the edge of Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. It is awful here. Blowing straight horizontal snow and white out conditions most of the time. DH says he is going out to snowblow so the kids can get in the drive when they get home later. The poor dog came in looking like the abominable snow man after 5 minutes out there. He told me he deserved a biscuit for that potty break!

Stay in, stay warm and stay safe. No one needs to be out unless they have no choice. Your driveway will probably blow back over during the night so I would really leave it alone for now.

Well, if it's worth anything...You have my sympathy. I live in the NE and it looks like it's coming this way and I'm probably going to go to work tomorrow, regardless. Stay safe and warm, tomorrow is another day....:)

Can you call someone to plow you out?
Good luck and stay warm!!

not worth even trying to plow out this evening. we are under a blizzard warning till morning. i read the online local newspaper. we are supposed to get 1 to 3 inches an hour till midnight. we cleared our drive and walks 2 hours ago and now you can't even tell it was done. my mil tried backing her car out of her drive and didn't make it to the street before she got the car stuck. finally at 7pm they close school for tomorrow.

I am actually in Richmond Township. I guess I just don't like the feeling of being stuck with DH on the road. He works for CSX.

I know what you mean about being stuck alone. my dh HAS to go to work tonight. he works 3rd shift at a drug and alcohol treatment center over by mansfield. he says he has no choice about going tonight. i live in town and its nasty. as long as you don't go out you should be fine. you don't want to go out try to clear snow and get hurt while your hubby is gone. if you need something just pm me and i will do what i can. if i can't help i'll sure try to find someone who can.

Thanks, I should have everything I need. I went to IGA before he left yesterday.

I hope your DH has a safe drive in.
