Hi folks. I couldn't find anything on this other then a thread from 2013 but I need guidance.

My family and I are going to WDW in October, 1-7, but it's month end close at work so I need to do work from WDW, we're staying at Pop Century. It wasn't my choice but free dining and my sister's families availability left it as our only option. I will need to connect to a VPN and use the internet to do so. Now I'm willing to get up early or work late to get this done but is there anyplace I can get a rock solid connection for a couple hours each day (Mon-Wed) to get my work done? Thank you for any advice and help.

There's business areas at coranado springs and yacht club I think. We've had decent wifi in the rooms, but noticed s difference from deluxe to moderate. Never stayed value.

Is it just access to data over the Internet? If so, it should be ok. I've done work in that manner at Disney and had no issues.
On the other hand, I've tried to download a movie to my iPad to watch on the way home and had no luck doing that at all.
I assume the movie required more and or faster data and it was just too much for the WiFi to handle. This was also at the same resort for both items so it wasn't even a difference in resort's Wifi.
One thought, is it possible to access your file, download it to your device, work on it locally and then upload it to the work system when finished?

You should get good wifi in your room and be able to connect to your VPN there. If you need a ethernet connection the only place I can think of that still has those is the business centers at the conference hotels.

I would ask on the Pop thread but what I have found is that public areas have more solid wifi connections than rooms. You may need to do some discovery when you arrive. But like Angie noted - if you have to work with big files I'd be concerned.

Thank you for the suggestions already folks. It's much appreciated.

I need to use Excel, Access, Oracle, and a homegrown software.

I had great access at Pop through my work VPN in April...I don't think you'll have a problem.

No issue from the room Citrixing into my job and doing work. Only was a problem when the wife hid my laptop in lieu of HDDR.

Just note if you are getting up super early or staying up super late you should be fine. I find the internet to be slowest in the evening. Think of the times people would typically come back to the resort and put the kids to bed but then still be up. I'm a night owl and late riser so around midnight the internet speeds shoot back up and then through out the day they are fine. So if it is slow it could just be the sheer number of people in the hotel who might also be using the wifi at the same time.

Great news folks. Thank you.

If there are issues is it possible to get an Ethernet connection somewhere on site?

Ethernet connections may be available for a fee at the resorts business centers for those that have them. Coronado Springs, Dolphin, and the deluxe hotels with conference centers should have them. I think when I used the business center at the Dolphin a couple of years ago it was about $5 for 10 minutes but I was using their computer.

When I need internet *reliability*. I use a cellular hotspot and a pay-as-you-go monthly data plan ($50 will usually buy 3GB/30 days). Most smartphones can double as a hotspot, that's what my wife uses, her iPhone 6, because her work pays for the data plan.

the most reliable connection that I found was making my phone into a mobile hot spot for a while - we were in the 50's area prefered room last year and we had problems with wifi all the time - granted, it was halloween, free dining, jersey week, etc...

My husband worked in the room at Pop using the wifi (on three trips) and at ASMo (on one trip) and at AKL (On one trip) last year without any problem. He did most of his work either early in the morning or during our afternoon break without incident or wifi issues. He brought a hotspot card from the office, just in case, but never needed to use it.

The wifi has always been fine at Pop - my husband always has to work while we are there. The only place I've had spotty wifi is the cabins at Fort Wilderness and even that's gotten better.

When I was in the same situation, and we were staying at SSR, I would get up early and go to the food court. WiFi is better early in the morning before everyone is up and on their phones. As a backup, can you tether to your phone? I've had to do that (not at WDW) and never have a problem with that.

I always have to work while on vacation and I've never had trouble at Pop. I do try to do the work really early in the day and the wifi seems much faster before everyone else gets up and moving. I found that the common area wifi at Pop was a bit better than in the room. I wouldn't worry about it.
