Anytime I take a picture of my dogs their I can't see the color of their eyes. I always end up with a white spot from the flash. How can I correct this so I can see their brown eyes when using flash or taking indoor shots? I have an HP-C340 digital camera.

try a flash difuser. If you are using the onboard flash anything from a tissue to white plastic over the flash will help.
If you have an external flash tring bouncing off the ceioing or wall.

It's just the same as red-eye in humans. It's because the flash is too close to the lens and the light reflects back. The farther away you are from the subject, the more likely you'll get those reflections.

If you still get them when pretty close and don't have or can't use an external flash that can be aimed at an angle (instead of directly at the subject), there's little you can do. You can try diffusing the flash but I suspect that you'll end up with underexposed photos, if the camera doesn't know to expect less light from the flash.

if my dogs were capable of photographing anything i'd sell them for some big $$$$ instead of asking for tips for them

If the diffusing affects the exposure too much then adjust the exposure comensation to over expose slightly to bring it back closer to proper level. most cameras have that feature.

Just remember to set everything back to normal as soon as possible or your next photos may be way off...

I take a lot of dog photos and my indoor shots often have red/flash eye. For that reason I prefer to take outdoor shots if I want a really good one. If you do want to get a good indoor shot, try to use natural light near a doorway without the flash. paw: (BTW, would love to see some of your dog photos.)

Outdoors this morning, on Auto. Excuse my yard, it is awful. My focus was the dogs.

Diesel (18 months) He is constantly in motion. Every time I'd press the shutter he'd turn his head or go somewhere else. I couldn't get him to sit still with his eyes facing me., but at least I got him in a resting position. There was some activity in the neighboring yards - squirrels and birds were moving about and chattering, really keeping his attention.

Whiskey (almost 8 years old). The old man checking out Diesel in the distance. He has less of a hunting instinct than Diesel, not that either will be sporting for game.

Great pics!

Here's our Belgian Shephard, Maggie, out and about in the woods:

Here's my 9-month old dachshund, Scooter, dressed up for a holiday photo. (And a little Photoshop work).

I normally have a problem with indoor shots producing a "green eye" affect on her. and once, I even got a green eye and a red eye. Very weird!

Your outdoor shots look great.

For indoor with a flash what about taking a picture of the dog not looking at you while your taking the pic. If you could get some to stand a bit to your left or right and have the dog look at them you might have a better chance of not getting the red/flash eye effect. Would be a nice different portrait look. The portrait subject doesn't always have look directly at the camera. Since its a digital camera its worth trying. You wont be waisting any film. It will just cost you a bit of time.

Good luck.
BTW your dogs are beautiful.
