Tonight my husband and I are going to his sisters boyfriends 30th bday party. It's a surprise party at a function hall. There will be about 100 people there.

The question is, this is sin't a gift giving event, right? Ive never gone to a birthday party for an adult before. I just can't see 100 people giving gifts, that sounds like a wedding. Will we be embarrassed if we don't have a gift for him?

I did think at first I would bring a card. But, when ever you hand someone a card in a party atmosphere, it would be expected that money would be in it.

Now I do expect some people, like his family, to have gifts for him. Am i safe to assume most won't?

I would bring a gift and treat it like any other party for an occasion I was invited too, shower, christening, graduation. Probably a card with a gift card in it. Don't know your budget but would something in the amount of $30.00 for 30 years be OK.:confused3

Sorry, unless it says something about no gifts, gifts are pretty much expected. I don't think I have ever attended a party no matter how large without at least a gift card in a greeting card.

Agreed. I would bring a gift. It could just be a small token (GC to his favorite coffee spot, something from his favorite sports team), but I wouldn't show up empty-handed.

This is a possible soon-to-be family member - I would 100% give a gift! If nothing else a good bottle of alc that he enjoys, or a gift card to somewhere.
JMHO - No scratch offs, unless you want to throw them in with the real gift just for fun.

I think 30 scratch offs is a cute gift! :thumbsup2

We did end up going with the scratch tickets. If we lived in Jersey, no youre right they wouldn't be a good gift. I'm in MA, our scratch tickets are a bit different here and worth getting.
But, 30...no, we ended up getting hin two $10 tickets. $1 tickets aren't worth it.

Thanks for all the replies....now does anyone have a cure for a hang over. I'm totally screwed today:headache:
