I need some point & shoot recommendations please!!

Is there such a thing as a point and shoot w/o shutter delay?
A couple of my photographer friends have the Canon G10 or G11 and they LOVE it but I can't see paying $500 for a P&S..

recommendations for P&S that won't break the bank?
