I don't usually ask for Pixie Dust, but I have my first opera audition tonight and I was hoping for some Pixie Dust to be sent my way. I studied voice and opera at a conservatory here in the Boston area, but I haven't done any operas since college (that was 3 years ago). Now, I'm auditioning for my first opera and I'm getting a bit nervouse about it. I'd appreciate the Pixie Dust. Thanks everyone.

Ps. The opera I'm auditioning for is Georges Bizet's "Carmen."

Aww, I imagine everyone is nervous so I won't even try to tell you not to be.

I hope you get it. :)

Good luck! IMO, just trying out is a huge accomplishment. I hope it goes great! :cheer2:

Thanks everyone, I really could use all the Pixie Dust you can send me. The last time I did a classical audition, it was for a vocal competition...and I bombed. This one I'm feeling nervous about it now, which is good. By feeling it now, I know it won't hit the moment I walk on stage, which happened the last time. Everyone gets nervous, it's all in the way you handle it and I'd rather start now than right before hand. The aria (song) I'm starting with is from the opera "Tosca." I've sung this aria many times before in various situations, and I can sing like nobodies business, so that helps out a bunch. It’s like a recital, you start off with the easiest piece. Thanks again everyone, I'll let you all know what happens tomorrow.

*Update*

Thanks again everyone for the Pixie Dust. I just wanted to give everyone an update on what happened. I had my audition on Friday night and it went well, not as well as I'd hoped, but it went well non the less. I had an audition time of 8:40 pm, Friday night. Because I didn't know where this place was, I showed up early, I was there an hour ahead of time. I filled out the necessary paper work, got my resume, headshot and other information all in order and waited. My time came to audition and I proceeded into the room. I got on stage introduced myself and began. The piece I was asked to sing was the tenor aria from Mozart's "The Magic Flute," "Dis Bildnis ist bezauberd schon," for those who might know it. Well, wouldn't you know it, I drew a complete blank when the piece started. I had sung this aria all week, I knew it cold, and yet I drew a memory slip. Well, Beth, the Artistic Director, said that was ok, things happen and to go and take a quick look at the first word. I did and I began again. No problems, the sound was good, and things were moving right along. Then it happned again, a memory slip. But this time I was able to correct the problem after missing one phrase of music. But that's ok, I got through it. I thought I screwed up completely. But apparently I didn't. She didn't have a part for me in this opera, Carmen, but she runs another, albeit smaller, company that she wants me to be a part of. This is great. I get to work with her and she gets to know me as a singer for future productions. Thanks again everyone.

It is great to get exposure - especially if you plan to perform a lot. I went to school in Boston - Berklee College of Music. I should have gone to Boston Conservatory b/c of my love of Musical Theatre. Ah, I digress...

Anyway, I graduated Berklee in '96, and I have been teaching music for the past 10+ years. Now I am getting back to performing. I posted a thread a few days ago about singing opera or musical theatre or both. Someone mentioned you as being a singer, so I'm glad to see your post and hear that your audition went relatively well.

Feel free to PM me if you'd like to talk shop.

I am currently studying voice with a classically trained teacher - she studied opera in Italy for 5 years. I'm going to be focusing on the classical technique and I am planning on trying to train both my classical and theatre voices.

Keep up the great work!
