I need some info on Mooresville, NC

Can anyone recommend a nice (& cheap) hotel in the area and some things to see or do??? We will have a day to spend there.

Are you interested in Nascar racing? You will be in the heart of Nascar country. We usually stop in Mooresville on the drive home from WDW. Any of the motels in that area are nice. You may want to try priceline.com or hotels.com to get a better than rack rate for a room.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites there a few years ago. It was very clean and the people were really friendly.

There was also a great barbecue place that we ate at where lots of the Nascar crews eat. I'll ask my husband if he remembers the name when he gets home from work!

Carowinds is about 2 miles from us! There is a water park and a lot of roller coasters.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn last summer. Very nice.

Mooresville is near Lake Norman, and there is some public access if you are interested in swimming. There is a dinner cruise (can't think of the name, but I'm sure the chamber of commerce folks can tell you). There are a lot of car shops, including some that can be toured, in both Mooresville and Concord. There's a car musuem near the speedway (about 20-25 miles from Mooresville) and you can do tours of Lowe's Motor Speedway that include a ride around the track in a van. Depending on when you are coming there may be a dirt track race going on. Also, 20-25 miles away the minor league baseball team that Dale Sr. got involved with right before his death, the Kannapolis Intimidators, plays. In Kannapolis, there's a very small museum focusing on the town's two claims to fame, textiles and Earnhardt, both ironically now gone. You also can see the bronze statue of Dale that got Teresa so upset -- she threatened to sue the city even though Dale's mom and sister were on the committee that planned the memorial. In Charlotte, there's a science musuem with an Omnimax theatre that is now showing a NASCAR film as well as an art musuem and history musuem.
