We are due to arrive in WDW in two weeks (27th Dec) and I have tendinitis in my toe which is very painful. I am hoping there will be some improvement in 2 weeks time but just in case there isn't I'm wondering about using a wheelchair some of the time.

I have heard there are wheelchairs available at the theme parks so that may be the answer. Would there be somewhere I could leave the chair while I went on the ride, I'm hoping I would be OK to go through in the normal queue, but I'm wondering what to do with the chair, would it be OK left in the stroller park?

I'm really hoping it won't come to this, I see a physiotherapist this afternoon so hopefully will get some treatment. I really don't want to cancel if I can help it as it is such a special trip our first time at Christmas/New Year and the children are so excited about it, especially looking forward to seeing the Grinch at IOA, it's not something we can just go and do again in a couple of months.

Hope someone out there can lend me some advice at this stressful and indecisive time!

Thanks :D

Welcome. I hope the next time you visit us that you are not in pain.:(

Here's a link to the DIS site page about touring with mobility disabilities. It includes info about renting wheelchairs at the parks. You can also request a wheelchair from your WDW resort, but they can't be reserved ahead of time and the quantity is limited, so no guarantee that you will get one.

For waiting in the queues, most of the rides are "Mainsteamed", which means wheelchairs can go in the line. If you prefer to walk in the lines, the wheelchair can be parked with the strollers. The CMs will probably assume that you don't know you can bring the wheelchair in line if you try to leave it, so they will probably tell you to bring it with you.

You might want to consider renting an ECV instead, it will conserve your energy. Also, you should click on the link in my signature for the disABILITIES FAQ -- you may want to get the GAC in case you need it.

As Sue mentioned, you can get wheelchairs on a first-come-first-served basis at the resorts to use during your stay, but the chairs and ECVs from the parks stay in the parks. You can also rent by the length-of-stay from:

Oh the kids absolutely have to see the Grinch!! Here's hoping you don't have to cancel. You should find either the chair or the ECV to be a must if you are in pain.

Just wanted to say have fun, and good luck with your treatments!!!

Thanks everyone for your great advice and kind thoughts. I'm just plugging away now with the icing and exercises and hoping that my toe will turn the corner soon(!)

It's good to know I will still be able to get around the parks if the walking gets too much.

Thanks :D

Oh I hope it all goes well for you. Definately get a GAC, just in case. Good luck
