IF I get approved I will be bringing 10 week old puppies into my home. Two, 2, to, too, puppies. I've never had 2 puppies at once. I'm looking for some advice on how to handle it.
Should I use one crate for both? Seperate crates?
Should I feed all three dogs puppy food, or all 3 dog food? Actually, I think I'll have to talk to the vet about that, and feed them seperately to make sure each dog gets what they need.

Any other advice or suggestions, I'd love to hear it.

I know this is crazy, but it feels so good and so right. I gotta.

Btw, I found them on petfinders.com. They are sisters that were found along side a busy highway. Someone kind rescued them just in time and brought them to the shelter.
One's a golden mix, Mercedes and the other is a shepard mix, Mia. I can handle Mia's name, but Mercedes is a bit much for me. So, I'll be asking about names soon. :) hopefully

I've already got a Maxie, so I'll need names that go with, but don't sound like that.

Two females? From what I have read that is VERY difficult. That said, the second most difficult situation is what I had.... two male siblings.

And we did just fine. :teeth:

I would definitely have separate crates and feed them separately. Train them separately... spend time with each one without the other. It's a big deal to have them each bond to you rather than to each other exclusively.

Two new furballs at one is a huge undertaking, but if you have the time and energy to devote to it, you will do just fine!!!

Good luck!!!

I have two rat terriers that are sisters. They go nuts if they are separated. I had them in one large crate with just a bowl of water during the day. I only kept them in the crate as puppies while house training them. I was going to get rid of the crate but they sometimes like to nap in it, LOL.
We fed them at the same time but separate bowls. One sister is a real bully with the food so we had to keep an eye on her. Eventually the smaller one had no problem cursing her out if she ate too much!
We fed ours Iams for puppies for the first year.
When I had them fixed at the vets - they said they cried something terrible when they separated them after surgery. As soon as they put them in the same cage they were happy.
I would just watch them to see how they react with each other before putting them in the same crate.

A.) Invest in lots of newspapers.

B.) Call the one little one Mercy instead of Mercedes.

C.) Puppy food for the puppies, doggie food for the doggie.

D.) Seperate crates.

E.) Start them on crunchie vegies and fruits while they are young ... carrots and apples are excellent for their teeth!

F.) Lots of Bailey's for you. ;)

Mine are two females but once they were fixed no problem.
Since we both work they keep each other company during the day so I think they needed to bond together more.
Of course they follow me everywhere I go as soon as I get home, even to the restroom. So I think we bonded okay. :p

LOL!!
If I'm approved they will be fixed on Tuesday. They are in seperate crates at the shelter. Not even next to each other and seem to do fine.
They are a little shy and scared, but loved to be cuddled.

Oooh, you're going to have so much FUN! :teeth:

I've never had two puppies at once (usually one at least a little older than the other), but just wanted to say that we've always had 2-3 females at once (all fixed), and it's rarely been a problem. For the most part they love each other.

I think they're young enough where you could change both names if you wanted, and they probably won't know the difference.

Hope you can post pics when you get them!

We got 2 of our beagles within 3 months of each other when they were puppies. Wilma was 6 months old when we got Freddie, who was 7 weeks old at the time. We kept them locked in the kitchen when we weren't home. They each had their own beds. We never had any problems other than the usual "puppy" stuff.
They bonded great with us and with each other. I would probably crate them seperately but feed them at the same time. I would keep an adult dog on adult food, and I would feed the puppies puppy food.
Wilma and Freddie are now 14 years old. They love each other, but I don't think they're overly dependent on one another. That's probably because we have 2 other beagles, too.
I'd have 2 puppies again in a heartbeat! They are so much fun! Lucky you!
Oh, by the way, maybe you could call Mercedes, "Sadie?" It would sound a lot like her old name, so it wouldn't be too confusing for her.

Years ago I got two female puppies from the shelter from different litters and had no problems.

We got two puppies (male and female) from the shelter from different litters in February, and they are very attached to each other. We started out with one crate and bought another when they got too big to share one. I had not planned to keep them in crates at night, but they really prefer to sleep in their own crates. I just tell them we are going night-night and they trot right in.

It's a lot of work, but they are adorable. The male (Gabe) is a golden retriever mix, and the female (Rasta) is a lab/terrier mix.

We currently have nine (yes, 9) dogs, and all but one are female. They are from shelters, rescue groups, the side of the road, etc (except for the oldest, the Jack Russell, whom we did purchase from a vet's family) and amazingly enough, they all get along pretty well (99% of the time).

We make sure they are all fed separately since the MinPins have a tendency to eat everything in sight. Plus, many of them are on different foods for different ailments.

There is truly nothing better than watching the interaction of more than one dog - it's so different than having only one! Watching each unique personality grow and change... heaven. You will have a blast.

(Quick story. JRT as a puppy got out of our fence. DH was working on his boat and asked the Shepherd where the JRT was. Shep looks at neighbor's yard and barks - sure enough, JRT is there, and starts trying to get back under fence (gets stuck a bit). When she gets back over, instead of going to DH, she runs over to Shep and sticks her little chest up at her and just GLARES at her.

Few weeks later, we hear JRT make a bark like we had never heard before, in the house. We go to investigate and she is staring at the Shep, who is in the bathroom eating cat food, which she knows she is not supposed to do. Apparently the JRT knows she is not supposed to, either, and she is returning the favor of ratting her out! She had never bothered to do this in the past, but did it one more time, for good measure, a few weeks later. That's the last we ever heard of that bark.)

Mercedes, you could call Sadie for short. That way she can still keep her name.

I was thinking the same thing. Maxie, Mercy and Mia. That's cute!

I'm sure everything will work out fine. You may need new furniture soon but other than that......:teeth:

Thank you for the support. Maybe I'm not so crazy after all?

I'm trying not to worry about the names until I know whether or not I'm approved. I'm really trying not to get my hopes up tooo high. I don't know why I wouldn't, but you never know.
But Maxie, Mia and Mercy does sound good together.
