Sometimes I am amazed by my own stupidity. Here is the question:
I have a one night ressie at AKL that I would like to switch to BWV (my home). Would there be a penalty to do this (provided there is availability at BWV for that date)?

Thanks.

Once you've used the points at a non DVC Disney resort, they cannot be used for DVC. You cannot just cancel the AKL reservation and make them with points. You can cancel the reservation but you must use them at non DVC options and they will expire at the end of your use year.

Don't know if this helps, but we booked 1 night at AKL last February and thought it was well worth the extra points! I would never book a whole week at a non-DVC resort on points, but one night was fine. It is a beautiful place and hopefully you will think it was worth the extra points, too!

We just booked 2 weekday nights at AKL Concierge in Feb. I could have sworn she said we could cancel w/in 5 days w/out penalty. I could be wrong but that stays in my head.

Without penelty, yes.

But, once the points are allocated towards a non-DVC stay, those points magically transform into "reservation" points. "reservation" points can NOT be used at any DVC resort.
THese points will expire at the end of the year.
