I am off to San Antonio for my sons graduation from Air Force Basic Training last weekend of March (keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well for the next 3 weeks.. any good thoughts or pixie dust sent his way is always appreciated.... :teeth: )

ANYWAY........ I need to rent a car while Im there and I am wondering what rental service any of you use. I am leaning to Alamo because of their rates. Any good or bad experiences with any car companies I should be aware of?

Also anyone every stayed at hotels in San Antonio? Im leaning to the Holiday Inn because it is an interior corrider hotel and since I will be there alone with a 3 year old I figure it might be safer.....

Thanks!

LOL...just had to laugh at the "Going to San Antonio" and renting from "Alamo"...

Get it....!!!! The Alamo?

LOL

We have only had trouble with one company 'Hertz' I won't go into detail but when we got to our destination we were stranded at the airport. Guess who bailed us out?? Alamo!! So we have been faithful ever since. They usually have the best rates anyways.

I find that good luck or bad luck with a rental car company is usually a function of the location. I would go for the best rate.

A very frequent National user here. Check out what the folks on the Transportation borad here have to say, maybe post this there also. And check Mary's www.mousesavers.com for best tips.

You can make reservations for the best rate you can find in advance, then try Priceline for car rentals. We've almost always cut our car rental price in half using Priceline. Have gotten Dollar, National and Avis.

I go with the cheapest chain, except I won't use Payless again in Orlando.

My son just left San Antonio last month, so tell your son congrats from us!!! Best of luck for his future!! We didn't rent a car, but did stay at the Holiday Inn Express at the Airport and it was nice. If you want to stay on the Riverwalk, you might try the Wyndham site, they usually have some good prices for the 2 hotels they have there.

We like to stay on the Riverwalk too. Lots of nice hotels that are enclosed like you like and tons of cool stuff on the Riverwalk.
Congrats to your ds for making it through basic :D
