Long time lurker, first time poster.

My family is staying at the HoJo in Anahiem at the end May, and I was wondering if there were any decent coffee places within walking distance of the hotel?

I'm not a breakfast eater, but I do need a good cup of coffee with half and half to keep me from getting cranky. ;)

I have never been too crazy about hotel room coffee, so I was looking for something more like Starbucks, etc.

Any ideas?

Mimi's Cafe (right across the street from HoJo's) has Apffel's coffee - is that a name brand? If that doesn't do it for you, the Starbuck's site lists one just north at Ball Road, although I can't picture it. Maybe it's combined with the gas station there. Anywho, it's walking distance if you don't mind going over the freeway overpass. YMMV

Does Mimi's have to-go coffee or dine in only? thanks

I want to say that La Brea Bakery right at the DTD side of security has pretty good coffee. There espresso drinks are stronger then Starbucks, more like coffee house coffee. Overall pretty good.

Inside DL not good coffee :( Though I know there is at least one espresso cart at DCA, I have no idea what they use for sure so I would check it before drinking, nescafe is :scared:

Why not bring/brew your own? That's what we do. Hojos has the 4 cup coffeepot and they provide small sized paper coffee cups. It should be enough to get you started anyway...

We like to bring our own. We grind beans and double bag them in a ziploc. We also travel with a small french press and heat the water in the hotel coffee maker. We use the french press because the coffee makers usually require filters unless you are using their pods.

We stayed at the Tropicana & there is a coffee/pizza place right near the front (not the gift shop, but behind that..tucked in the corner...right side of driveway) that a lot of people walking from that direction was stopping in on their way to the parks..... have no idea how good it is since I don't drink coffee.....but really noticed a steady flow in the morning making there way in there & then heading down to the crosswalk.

Coffee inside the park is yucky, but my DH gets desperate and needs something so he goes to Market House on Main St. where you can get a free refill if you save your reciept. I will have mine with breakfast before getting into the park and do without for the rest of the day.

If you do bring your own, Costco has a Kirkland brand of coffee packets that is very good. It is dark roast and we were very surprised by it. Each packet of already ground makes a full 12 cup pot of coffee. You would have to adjust it for the smaller hotel coffee makers but it is already ground, packed, and sealed so easy to travel with. I use it at home too on mornings I have too tired to grind and count scoops. :rotfl:

McDonalds. MD's coffee isn't bad at all. Honestly it's better than DL. I always bring my own coffee stuff. I even take my own coffee pot. I hate hotel coffee it usually stinks!

On our last trip we went with Mimi's for to go coffee.
Yum!!!!!!
They made me the most delicious mocha!
Then, went back the next day for another one.:lovestruc

You can sit at the counter in a bar stool while they put your order together.
Muffins were GREAT too.

Mimi's coffee is decent and definitely to go. The espresso in DCA is passable if you order several extra shots.

I would put a vote in for Mickey Ds. Just tried it to see what it was like (we are diehard Dunkin Donuts fans for the Northeasterns in the bunch). And we are also bringing our own Dunkin Donuts coffee for the hotel.

I'm going to bring some Tim Horton's coffee with me. I don't like Starbuck's regular coffee but do enjoy their specialty coffees.

Thanks for all of the replies.

Across the street at Mimi's sounds like just the ticket.

Much appreciated all.

This is a great thread... I have been slowly making it through the DL trip without any coffee and wanting it.... I have done the McDonald's a couple of times during our stay and once at the bakery place on main street in DL, which was alright.... But I would like to find another place that is better... I have to have some type of coffee with flavor and making at the hotel with hotel water YUCK....
