I just want to say I'm new to the WISH board and want to lose weight. I'm 5'9 and weigh 169 pounds. Last New Year I made a commitment to continue to eat health and step up my exercise regemine as I was doing from the following year. Well in March 03 I found out I was pregnant with my second baby. Well all of my good eating habits went right out of the window, and on top of that I stopped exercising. Durning the time I got pregnant I was 140 lbs, a week before I delivered which was on December 4, 2003 I topped the scales off at 190, the heaviest I've ever been in my life. I now weigh five weeks later 169 and want to get to my goal weight of 135.

I've never been one to diet, but change my eating habits and mind set about the food I eat. Right now DH and I are finding it VERY hard to get motivated into exercising. Dropping the bad eatting habit that I'd adapted to during the past nine months is not bad, but getting off of my behind to exercise is what is troubleing me. Please help, I need to get back into my military uniform next month and I desperatly want to run the 1/2 marathon next year and I know I need to get into shape for that. I love to run and exercise, but need some motivation to get me going. Please help. I'm a great motivator to others who need it once I get my engines reving. ::yes::

TIA

Wow! Id love to just grow to 5'9! Then I wouldn't feel so bad about my weight!:p (5'4' and 150) OK! Maryland can be cold this time of year, so that means you need to get to a gym. That's hard to do with an infant. If you're shooting for a quick loss, try Atkins or South Beach. (unless you are breastfeeding, then I would discuss any diet with a Dr. first.) Put that baby in a stroller and go to the mall and walk. There must be no shortage of things you need for the baby, so when you are out and about, make sure you take 20 extra mins to walk. You will be back in the swing of things on no time. Just commit to every other day, and I mean commit. No excuses. Then when you've done it, of course, you'll feel better and want to do it again. And again, intil that 30 pounds melts off like butter. Just don't give up. I know it's hard not to be discouraged, and that is normal, but never give up. When you get in a slump, see it for what it is, and move through it! You can do this! You have done a lot that required self discipline and you are perfectly suited for this challenge! It's Monday. When will you start your engine and get moving? Post it here, and report back when you've done it and just see how much support and motivation you get!::yes::

Good luck!
Tracy

Walking tapes, i.e., Leslie Sansone, are also a possiblity. If you can't leave the house, just pop in a tape and walk one to four miles at varying intensities. She always includes a warm up and cool down, as well.

You can do it!

Welcome to WISH....we're a great bunch of loosers!

First, if you want to do the WDW 1/2 marathon next year......go register right now! No, really, right this minute. Registration opened late yesterday and will fill up fast. On the WISH page you'll see a post called "Official I'm in and running the half marathon" thread...it has a link right to registration.

Now, once you've done that....trust me, you'll be so pumped (and financially committed!) you'll want to go put on your walking shoes right away.

Also, do you and DH dance? To me it's the most fun exercise there is! And if he doesn't, you just crank up the stereo and dance through you housework, ironing, dishes etc. If you have playstation, there's a 'game' called dance, dance revolution that a lot of WISHers have been posting about.....it's a great workout!

We'll all be here, cheering you on!

I want to second Tracy's suggestion of doing South Beach or Atkins if you are interested in dropping the weight quickly. I have been on South Beach about six weeks and I have lost 22.5 pounds and a many many inches! I work out with the FIRM videos (they kick butt) and ride my exercise bike. I look at exercising as something I gotta do, not necessarily like or be motiviated to do. You know how you have to get up and go to work EVERYDAY whether you want to or not? That's how I look at my exercise routine. This morning I didn't want to get out the bed to do the cardio tape but you know what? I made myself anyway, just like I do when it's time to get up and go to work. I rarely feel motivated to get up for work but I do it 5 days a week. Exercise has become the same.

Having the motivation of running or walking the marathon can double your determination. I wish I could participate or at least cheer my fellow WISHers on in 2005 but I'm shooting for 2006. I wish you well in your weight loss efforts and in being successful in finding an exercise routine that you enjoy.

My advice is pretty simple

PICK A CLIPPIE!

I find mine to be highly motivating/somewhat guilt inducing. They really help me follow through on my WISH Goals. Which believe me aren't many. I'm starting small and working up to overall lifestyle change.

Wanna start really samll? Give up soda for water. Even diet soda has chemicals and sweeteners that you're better off without. Water has no calories and no sweeteners.

Do you walk just 20 minutes in a row a few times every week? Do you find yourself pacing back and fortha across a room to calm and comfort your newborn for the same amount of time? Then count it as exercise. Any time you're not sitting on your but is a minute of activity.

As for an actual exercise program other than walking you wanna ask your doc. Some women find that they aren't ready to do a real exercise program until 2 months after the baby is born.

Welcome&Good luck

First CONGRATULATIONS on your sweet baby!! How precious!

I'm just going to be reiterating everything everyone's said before- but hopefully repetition will build retention! :)

1. If you're not breastfeeding, try cutting out carbs for 1-2 weeks- that's long enough for the cravings to cut way back and gradually add in fruit, whole wheat breads, small doses of high carb vegetables focusing on lean meats, eggs, salads, veggies. Rule of thumb- when the weight stalls cut back on the carbs.

2. Start out when you feel ready- with some brisk walks- it takes a good 6 months for all your ligaments and joints to recover from the overwhelming hormone load you've been dealing with. Starting out with a good 20 minute walk then increasing your time up to 45 minutes is a good plan. Then add the running if you feel up to it- don't want to risk an injury early on!

3. Drink lots and lots of WATER! Cut out drinks with sugar and caffeine if you can, I guarantee if you only drink water for a week keeping your diet the same- you'll see some pounds come off!

4. GRAB THAT CLIPPIE! Plan to walk/run the marathon, sign on, set a goal- create a flow chart that shows where you can be in 6 months- I think you could easily be at goal in six months!

5. Not nagging on you- but unless you're super small frame, 135 is really small for 5'9...140 would probably look GREAT on you- I always say work on a STRONG HEART, FIT BODY, and let the scale be the last of your worries. I have friends that are 135 and 5'9, but they don't look healthy as some that are 145 5'7 and have built up their workouts- most their weight is lean muscle and their body is fit. So once you get back to the 140's focus more on your workouts and eating healthy and less on the number. Those nice jeans will fit once more! :)

YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!
