We have AP's and are FL residents so I know the codes for January do not come out until late Oct or early Nov.

We want to book the Poly for 4 nights at the end of January....what do you think the odds are that I can wait until the codes come out and get a room at the Poly? I know that is not a busy time of the year but it is the Poly and might go fast.

Should I wait or just book it now and if a code is available later just change the reservation?

I had a hard time getting what I want in Jan ....some reason this year seems busier..

I haven't been able to get what I wanted and we are going in January as well. I'm not sure I'd wait...but then again this is my first trip so I don't know how things typically change as codes come out and such. we are about ready to bite the bullet and book CL at CR because we want to stay there and can't get a tower room. I hope if you wait you get the room you want!

Considering that the Super Bowl will be Feb 1st, and if you have your heart set on the Poly, I would go ahead and book it as a room only, then if a better rate or code becomes available, you can switch your room to that rate/code, or you can always cancel 6 days prior. We are in a similar situation, and have gone ahead and booked the room - awaiting a discount rate, but if nothing comes along, at least we have a room. Best of luck!

I'm confused because I have read that they will cancel your room only if you want to "upgrade" to a package. Because they only alot certain rooms for certain deals. I also read on here that the resorts actually cut back on their staff and "close" a select number of rooms to keep all costs down. I wish we had some facts on all this! I would love to book a room only with my AAA discount, but I'm still deciding when to go!:confused3

I'm going to tell you to book now. I posted about how we were ready to book CL at CR well I waited too long and we missed it. Now we can't get CR at all and have to hope for a cancellation or they release more rooms (I read they sometimes block for conventions and then release later as the reservations come in). We did book the MK view at GF but its definitely not what we were hoping for. Get what you want now and apply the code later if they come out. Waiting probably isn't going to get you what you want in the long run.

If paying rack would be ok with you, then book it now. If you won't stay there without a code, I'd wait. If Disney sees bookings are up - and its primarily people waiting for codes - well, discounts are likely to be less because they don't need to lure people in. Just my opinion. :-)

We did book for January but we are staying at the POP instead....DH thinks our nieces will like it so much better and they are not huge eaters so the food court will come in handy for easy meals. I just dont want to do the buses the entire time...but we do have our own car so I guess I can drive to parks and such if need be.

Now if a code comes out or if I get a bounceback for 09 when we go in Oct then for sure I am going to switch and just not tell DH :rotfl:

:rotfl: I got a AAA discount for GF and switched and didn't tell dh yet :rotfl: so that makes me laugh...good luck...I hope you get a good bounceback or code that lets you make a switch!

What is the AAA discount for January?

Does anyone know if MLK Day/weekend is terribly crowded?

Thanks.

For January, the AAA discounts are:
Value & moderate resorts: 20%
Deluxe villas: 20%
Deluxe resorts & FW Campgrounds: 15%
Swan & Dolphin: 35%

You can cancel your room only reservation at any time with no penalty up to 6 days prior of your arrival. If Disney offers a discount (at their discretion) they usually limit the number of discount rooms available, so first come - first discounted!!! You are allowed to cancel, upgrade, add or trade locations provided that Disney has the rooms available. I do not know anything about resorts cutting back on staff and closing rooms to keep cost down as a general policy. Perhaps you read about a particular resort that did this at a particular time, but I don't believe this is a Disney practice. Are your referring to the POR that closed briefly after 9-11? Resorts that are "refurbishing" may also close a wing or building. Is there a particular resort you are looking at? We do not have AAA, so is your travel agent telling you otherwise? It took me about 2 months to finalize our "dates" but went ahead and booked a room only reservation (with a 1 night deposit charged to my credit card). Once I confirmed our airfare, I then called back and modified our dates. I hope that discount rates will come out for our dates, but if not, we have our room so we are good to go. If you have a rough idea of when you want to go, try contacting Disney's reservation desk to see if your dates with AAA rates are available. This might help you decide. If you ask, they will hold a reservation for you for a few days without a credit card. Hope this was helpful. Have fun planning your trip! It can seem confusing since there are so many choices, but imho it adds to the fun!!!
