I Need Ideas For School Baskets To Auction Off

Our school has a carnival each year where the kids come and play games. It is a fundraiser for our PTO. One of the biggest fundraisers is to make baskets. We give each class a theme, and they have to bring an item to put in the basket. I'm in charge this year, and I would like to bring some new ideas to the table. I have a few, but thought I'd come here and see what others have done for theirs.

Thanks.

The ones that I remember DD's classes doing are:

School Supplies (always need extra on hand)
Kitchen
Spa
Childrens Crafts

Hope there's an idea here for you!

We do the same thing each year. Our department makes a "Cash Basket". A basket stuffed with several $5's, $10's, $20's that the department contributes (total is usually around $200!). Then add lottery tickets. Always the top seller at the raffle and easy since no one has to shop for "basket stuffers"

Thanks. I like all of those ideas. I'm going to write all of them down. I'm going to put a "team" together and have them help me decide which ones to use.

I like this idea too. Can I ask what your department is? I don't think we do a staff one, just one for each class. But I like this idea. Thanks.

Our school did this last year. A couple thoughts...

A chocolate basket (this was popular!)
Movies
Family night (popcorn, videos, board games)
Sports
Puzzles

DH's work had baskets like this, too--DS8 was thrilled when he put all his tickets (it was free) into the "movie" one and he won it! We got 4 movie passes, Goobers, Milk Duds, microwave popcorn, etc. You would probably want it more elaborate--they were aiming for ~$25 per basket. Maybe throw in a video or DVD.

When we did them last year I saw the following
Car Wash Basket - everything under the sun to clean your car
Movie night - candy movie pass, popcorn etc.
picnic basket full of things to take on a picnic
Grilling - cookbook, utensils, sauces, apron and some other items
spa theme - soap, lotions, pillow and candles
scrapbook - All kinds of stickers, punches, and paper
reading - gift card to book store, bookmarks, journal, pens and book light, tailgate basket - cooler, form finger, and some other things can't remember
New Baby -
Doggy basket - full of dog treats and neat stuff for your pet.
Family Fun Night - Full of all types of games.

Each classroom had a different themed basket. It was really cool.

Thanks. I was trying to decide if I could ask the teachers and staff to do this one. I think it's a neat idea.

Thanks. I don't read at the community board much, and I didn't see this post. I read it, and I took some ideas from it.

I didn't mean to imply that you shoud have seen it last week! I was just passing on the information since it had some good ideas.

FWIW, I read all the boards (except for the Kid's Boards) by clicking on "New Posts" and reading whatever looks interesting. It gives me an interesting cross-section of the DIS :).

Oh, I knew you weren't. Thanks for pointing me in that direction. I didn't know that you could read just the new threads. I'll have to figure that out. You'd think after coming here for over three years I knew how to get around :)

My son's school just did this for their Fall Fair. His class basket theme was "Host Your Own Poker Night." It was the second-highest selling basket.

We did baskets as a fund raiser for our 20th year class reunion and the most popular of all the baskets was a "cafe basket" with coffee mugs, tea bags, flavored coffee, tealight candles, and things like that.
