I'm subbing in band all week and since we're done with the holiday concert, I won't be able to conduct so.........I want to come up with a "fun" worksheet for some of the classes (I have 5th thru 8th).

Example....Name all the reindeer.

I'll check back later to see what clever questions you guys can come up with..........hopefully I'll know the answers or figure them out or you can tell me those, too!!!:teeth: :teeth:

BTW.......who are ALL of Santa's reindeer???

Dasher and Dancer, Prancer, Donner and Blitzen
Comet and Cupid and Vixon....
{sp???}
And the big guy!! Rudolph!!

Here are some questions!

Name the three wise men.

What did they bring?

Sing the SECOND stanza of a popular Christmas song.

Sing the THIRD stanza of a popular Christmas song.

What did the true love give on the 7th day of Christmas?

Why is Christmas celebrated on December 25th?

What is Epiphany and when is it?

Name some of the other names Santa Claus has.

What is the origin of Santa Claus?

And who FIRST described the way he looks today??

All are questions I ASKED when I was about that age! :bounce:

See, if it is a public school, you COULD get in trouble with Christmas only nowadays...

I am Christian, the town I work and live in is pretty split... my side of town is predominately Christian (strong emphasis on Catholic), but about 10 minutes away, it becomes heavily Jewish...

My students are about 75% Jewish, 20% Christian, and the rest don't celebrate at all.

We tried to do songs in class, and my 6th graders didn't know even basic non religious Christmas songs like Frosty or Rudulph...

So, the teachers have been doing a snowflake contest.. (cutting snowflakes), or some found a snowflake worksheet with lines in the middle.. the students are writing characteristics of giving on the lines..

Some have been writing letters to family members. Some have been doing Kwanzaa principles (there are seven of those).

we went to a party over the weekend and they had holiday movie trivia. there are many movies anymore to get questions from and I think most kids have seen the classics like Charlie Brown.

Believe it or not, some of my students had never seen any of those Christmas specials either...

They didn't know Rudolph or Frosty or know about Charlie Browns Christmas...

But they could tell me about each of the candles on the menorah!

Here I found a link for all the December holidays.. they are calling it the multicultural December holidays

I just live and work in a very politcall correct district. I know that teachers would get in hot water in my district with Christmas, especially with the majority of the student body (and students families) Jewish.

List the 12 days of Christmas items (for a challenge, do it without singing or humming the tune;)).

How many different names for Santa Claus can you name?

Some great ideas!!! Keep 'em coming!!!:teeth:

Shannon......I'm definetly using yours. Now I just have to remember what the 12 things are!!!:p

CindyB....don't worry, that's why I'm trying to keep saying the Holiday worksheet to my classes!!!;)

Thanks for the list of reindeer, Robin.:)

I remember 2 worksheet I got in Jr High about christmas- One was "mixed up carols" that listed a popular song but by different words (usually synanyoms) that you had to figure outl- THat was pretty fun

and the other was a list of how to say Merry Christmas in about a dozen languages that you had to name. This was a class project that was really fun learning who knew what language. I think this one was matching so the names didnt come from mid-air

I believe I still have copies of the both of them if you want me to post them.

Everyone sings it Donner but everything I've seen printed shows Donder.

Most websites show Donner but I did find these sites that show it as Donder
Poem

Livingston's Poem

Dig out your child's actual book and check it out. ;)

Are you creative enough to put together a wordsearch or crossword? You might even be able to find one online. Try a broad search for Holiday trivia or holiday games.

Nice idea, Kris! I just might do that tonight!:D

Kitty, there is a web site that you can make a word search puzzles (and many other types of puzzles too) you put the words you want in the box and the program makes the puzzle. Yep, it is free too!

Another idea...who can make the most words out of Winter Wonderland (my kids came up with 144!! )

Here is the link for the puzzle one
