Is it realistic to lose 10 lbs. in a month? I have 10 lbs more pounds to lose. I am becoming a slave to the scale and the mirror. Can someone help me with tips on how to stay focused but not obsess about it.It driving me nuts. TIA
I believe healthy weight loss is considered 1-2 lbs a week. So in a month that would be 4-8 lbs. As for staying focused: I use fitday.com to track my workouts and my calories. I come to this website often for encouragement. I think of how great I will look once I get toned. When I'm working out I think of how great I will feel once I'm done. Also I find for me it's best to work out in the morning and get it over with.
Generally, they say you can lose 1-2lbs per week. Anything over that is water weight. However, with exercise & gaining more muscle & losing fat - your body can take up less space since muscle is more condensed than fat. (Thats why you'll have someone who weighs 130lbs in a size 10 & someone else with the same weight in a size 6.)
As for staying focused, I keep a Fitness Notebook. Any articles that I read, I clip & paste into my scrapbook. That way I have it for future reference. I save stuff on dieting, working out, dressing thin etc. I also have inspirational pics - usually before/afters of people who have successfully lost weight. That way when I'm feeling down I can grab my notebook & have instant motivation.
What really helps me is to look at old photos of myself and remember that I want to look that way again. It might not be an incentive for everyone, but it works for me. Also, I keep reminding myself that I have to make being healthy a lifestyle and not just a limited-time deal.
If this is the last 10 pounds you have to lose to make goal, it might be harder to lose than if you're trying to lose the first 10. (Sorry, not trying to discourage you! I just don't want you to be disappointed if it doesn't happen in a month...) Sometimes you need to kick your body into a different mode to kickstart additional weight loss. Your body gets used to your routines if they don't vary, so it's possible that you might have hit a plateau if you've been in the same eating and fitness routine for a while.
I just wanted to note that I just looked at fitday.com...it looks great! something like that would give me more motivation to try to lose weight, and to keep track of things. To original poster...good luck! I've been exercising for 2 mos now, no weight loss...I'm guessing because of my ice cream habit, however I'm going to try to reduce that!

I love fitday.com it is def a great way to stay motivated. sometimes i do let it get out of control to the point where i am constantly on fitday seeing what i can eat etc. when i get like that i'll stop for a week and try to keep eat healthy on my own and then go back when the obsession has subsided.
