I have never attended a wedding. My own wedding will be my first.

I sent out save the dates 3 weeks ago. They said "Save the date: Her prince Proposed! Leighnara and christopher January 3, 2012~ Walt Disney World Orlando Fl. Formal Invitation to follow."

I talked to the wedding planner at Disney and she says my hotel info should have been mailed with the STD.

I'mso lost. Idk how to let people know where we're registered, hotel info, or anything. I thought about sending it with the formal invite but an older friend (she's my mom's age) told me that's bad etiquette.

I have no idea what I'm doing. I know I want to send invites out in august so that I can get RSVPs back end of October.

I am sending the hotel information in my invitations (no one has told me it's wrong, and I've seen it done a lot), but the registry information should NOT go in the formal invite.

If you have a mostly tech-savvy guest list, you could do a wedding web site with all the hotel/registry info on it.

If not, have your mom and maids spread the word to your guests.

You could even do a separate mailing between now and the invitations with the information in it.

I don't think many people send out hotel info with save the dates. I sent out my save the dates about 9 mos before our event and we hadn't even picked a hotel at that point. Lots of people here send out newsletters with lodging info and info on tickets, parks, etc. We plan on sending hotel info out with our invitations somewhere around the 4-6 month mark.

Technically you are not supposed to speak of registry info. Etiquette usually dictates that the people planning your wedding shower are the ones to spread the word and sometimes they'll include it in the shower invitation.

I think your save the dates are fine. If you feel like you wanted to include more maybe send out a newsletter. There is a great thread here with sample newsletters. People generally include info on events surrounding the wedding, info on transportation, info on hotels and discounts, and then a link to a wedding website for more info.

We did the ticket and hotel info with the invites. We only had 8 months when we did our contract so std's weren't really necessary

No worries. When I got married in 2002 save the dates were brand new. When I mailed them out, even with the formal invite to follow written on it, people were all confused because they thought the std's were the invite.
STD's are a new thing because people are so much busier these days. There is no right or wrong way of doing them, they aren't even required.

You can send the hotel info later, or at some point in between do a newsletter with hotel info, park tix info, etc.

We aren't having a wedding shower. We had a courthouse wedding before he deployed for Afghanistan. The ceremony we are having is a VR for us but for his family (who doesn't know we're married [except his parents and siblings]) it'll be the real wedding. He'll be home from afghanistan maybe 2-3 weeks before the wedding so no shower.

My guest aren't very tech savy but we do have two wedding websites. I suppose a newsletter could work.

What information should I have on the invite?

The invite basically just has the date, time and location of the ceremony on the actual invitation. If you're having a reception you can include that on the invite or include a reception card (that is what we did) with that info. You can also do another insert with hotel info and any other info you want to share with your guests to help with the planning process. Then there will be a response card so guests can RSVP, usually you ask for all RSVPs to be in about 1 month before the event (some people even go up to 2 weeks before the event).

We have a similar situation. We did a JP ceremony with just our parents and were planning on having a wedding for friends and family members a few months later and then our son almost died to we put it off. We're doing a vow renewal now. Here is what our invites look like:

Inside:

Wording reads:
THE PLEASURE OF YOUR COMPANY IS REQUESTED AT
THE REAFFIRMATION OF THE WEDDING VOWS OF
Our names
Date
Time
Location

Response & Reception cards:

Response card wording reads:
Kindly respond on or before (date that is one month before our event)
M____________________
_____ Accepts with pleasure
_____ Declines with regret

Reception card wording reads:
The magic continues...
Please join us for dinner
immediately following the ceremont

I hope this helps!

OMG thank you so much!! This definitely helped me!

we never sent our hotel info with our save the dates, and i've never got a save the date with hotel information on it.

We have made a wedding website, which you can search on google... they have lots of sites that offer free ones. If you need an example you can find mine at :

www.weddingwire.com/crissatimpaul

on the site we posted our story, hotel info, links to our registries, info about the ceremony, reception, travel tips, info about orlando, etc etc etc

We DID send out information about our registries in our invitations (but only to one of 4 places that we're registed at) we included the rest of the links on our website, though.

Our invitations only included the invitation, the response card, a business card we made up with our link to a wedding website as well as our registry card and a photo of us.

My parents or grandparent all have their own ideas about what is ettiqute and appropriate, but honestly, the wedding planning world has changed a little since they got married and more things are more acceptable now then they were then.

Good luck!!

Firstly, good luck with all the planning!!
Have you considered utilizing the newsletter idea!! Alongside the 'official communications' (invitations S the Ds etc), you could compile a newsletter (or even a series of them) to keep your guests abreast of what is happening!! This could include accommodation news, booking deadlines, dining information, ticket options... the list is endless. I compiled a series of three newsletters over about eighteen months, for my guests and they were very well received and seemed to get the information across in a fun way.
Here is the link to a thread about newsletters

Thanks! I did think about a newsletter but just didn't really know how to go about it.

What does invitations S the Ds mean?

epfootball, thanks. I like the buisness card idea. I do have a website through the knot and one through Disney.. Disney's doesn't really have much that you can get creative with but the one from theknot is nice.. now just gotta figure out the link for it

Sorry sweetie - Invitations means yoiur actual wedding invitations and S the Ds means Save the Dates - I just forgot to put a comma between the two!!!

ohh ok. thanks! I'm new to all the accronyms but I'll catch on fast (gotta since I'm a military spouse and all they use is accronyms)
