I need help with point usage and various use years- sorry in advance!

Hi all! New member here! This is going to be a bit confusing ( at least it is to me) so I need some help!

We bought a fixed week at poly, so have 130 points Aug use year. We received 130 points from 2014 and 130 from 2015.

We used 182 points to go to Aulani ( amazing). So all of 2014 points and 52 2015 points.

We had 78 2015 points left. We used 40 points to book my family 2 nights in august ( so down to 38 points) and then used 60 points to book my parents 4 nights in august ( so 38 2015 points and borrowed 22 points from 2016).

So I have 108 points left from 2016.

Alright, so we were planning on staying Aug 31- Sept 5 at poly. 2 nights in club level and then 2 nights in DVC. We want to change this to be Aug 31- Sept 4 all in DVC. My parents reso will be going from 4 nights down to 3 nights at DVC.

So 108 -2016 points now. I want to cancel 2 nights, so that gives me 36 points back in the bank. I will then use 2 more nights of lake view, so 45 points. So it looks like I will then have to borrow 11 more 2016 points.

I am happy to do this. My complicated question is, if I need to cancel, what the darn happens with all these points? I assume the 2016 have to stay in the 2015 use year, right? So essentially, I will have my points left in the 2016 use year that will stay, and then I could end up with 118 points that I must use by Aug 31 2016- is this correct?

Don't you have to use your points by August 1st, not August 31st? Yes, if you borrow points, they have to stay in the UY you borrowed them in to. You can bank 2015 points as long as they are within the banking period, but once banked, they can not be banked again.

Points once borrowed stay borrowed if there is a cancellation and must be used by the end of the use year into which they were borrowed. However, when you do cancel a portion of a reservation, they will take out current use year points first. With August use year, any borrowed Aug 2016 points must be used for a trip that ends no later than July 31, 2016, not August 31

I suggest that you slow down and take a breath.

MS can make mistakes with current banked/borrowed points so you really need to know what to expect in order to keep an eye on them. You have 50 years to use your points and you will stay at all of the resorts many times so no need to rush.

Thanks so much! So, if I cancel, the 2015 will go back in that pot and 2016 will go into 2015. I can then bank any 2015 points into 2016 use year. Perfect, thanks!`
