My kitty ending up having some kind of behavioral issue several months ago. Would pee in her box but not poop there. :confused3 She loved my scatter rugs and I was going crazy  trying to figure out what was going on with her. No medical issues and the vet suggested I take her to a kitty shrink. I love my cat beyond words but I was not taking her to a shrink. I found this litter on line and it works like magic. She used the box the first day I bought it and although it is a little expensive, it is well worth the price. I swear by it.

Maybe it will help if you try it.

How much is the fancy litter?

Our fat cat also has problems with the litter box. Sometimes she will climb in and pee, then climb out and poop on the floor, and now more recently she has started doing both on the floor. She goes on the carpet in front of the litter box and in an area near the sliding door in the living room. Nowhere else (except her box, which seems to be rare). It is an automatic litter box that empties itself after each use.

She isn't behaving differently in any other way, so we don't think it is medical. And she hasn't had shots in years and if we take her to the vet its going to cost many hundreds of dollars to update everything before they will see her, which we can't afford, and would be a lot more expensive that putting her down (if she did have a medical problem that we likewise couldn't afford treatment for, etc.) :confused3

Worst of all, we are renting the condo and I'm nearly certain that by now she's ruined the carpet and that we'll have to pay to replace most of it when we move out, which is the only reason I haven't killed her myself - if its already ruined, choking her to death isn't going to make new carpet any cheaper... :furious: (I'm kidding people, I would never hurt her.) :thumbsup2  :cat:

Hi! I am sorry this is going on--it is such a pain! Your cat is obese, even for a large cat. So she is at high risk for diabetes, which can contribute to her peeing outside the litterbox. I would definitely get her checked for that.

In the meantime, you didn't say what you were feeding, but if you have tried portion control and she didn't lose, a diet change is in order. We had an obese cat and switched from dry food to wet (after trying ever diet dry food on the market, portion control, etc) and she is now just fat. Ha ha, seriously though, she has lost like 3 or 4 pounds in a slow and healthy manner. Turns out she needed to be off the high carbs in dry food.

Please check out this link (written & compiled by a vetrinarian)--it might help her out!

We give her 1/3 cup of Iams fat cat food a day. It used to work but this past year she has gained a lot. We will take her in. Thanks everyone!
