I need help with making my reservation

My family is planning a Disney World Vacation for early summer of 2015.
If I don't use a WDW travel agent how will I be able to make room requests?
We are planning to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge and we want to have Savannah rooms.
Has anyone stayed there and would be willing to give me some advice.
Also, my husband is afraid the pool won't be large enough.

You can make room requests with the main booking line if you book with Disney directly. They just add it to your reservation. You make them through whoever you book through if you go rough a 3rd party. They aren't guaranteed.

If you book a Savannah view room you'll get a Savannah view room. I can't help you with your husbands pool issue. The pools at AKL are great, but I don't really know how to convince him they're large enough. You can show him pictures from allears.net.

When you do your online check-in beforehand you can make room requests...I think that's something like 10 days out. If it's important to you to definitely get a savannah room, you'll need to pay for that. I know some have received free upgrades, but I never have at AKL. As far as the pool goes, it is very large. Also, you can take the van shuttle or walk 5 minutes to Kidani's pool area which is smaller, but has a fun zero-depth area for kids. Both pools have waterslides. AKL is my family's favorite resort!

Just to be entirely clear, you don't request savannah view rooms. They are a bookable category and you must book that category to be assured of getting a savannah room. If you book a standard you will most likely receive a standard as that is what you booked and paid for. It is very easy to book on the disney site you would simply book Animal Kingdom Lodge Savannah View.
