My DH might be taking a new job in the Nashville area of TN. I know NOTHING about TN! What is a good area for housing...our current mtg is $1800, so hoping to stay around that price for a rental. Also, need good school districts and a good preschool recommendation.
TIA!

I live in Murfreesboro, 25 miles south east of Nashville. Are you looking to live in the city or commute? We have been here 2 years and love it! If you are looking to live outside the city, my recommendation would be east or southeast. Mt Juliet and Murfreesboro are great areas. I am not sure where the job is but he would have a small commute (30 -40 ) min depending on where in Nashville he will work.

We love Murfreesboro because it is close to the city of Nashville but also it's own little city. We have great schools, a great university (mtsu) and lots of great stores, yet just a 30 min drive into Nashville.

Feel free to ask any more questions :)

He will actually travel all over the state, so distance to the city will not matter. Do you know of any good preschools? How about school districts to avoid? Is there much new construction out there? Median home cost for 2500 sq ft?

Franklin, Brentwood, Mt Juliet - all good areas with great schools. I have friends that live in Murfreesboro, Columbia and Smyrna that love it there but it is a bit of a hike to downtown if you are going to drive it every day.

Avoid Antioch and East Nashville.

Nashville is a GREAT place to live. People are very friendly and there are lots of things to do.

My sister in law is a nurse in Nashville and she lives in Franklin, TN (and has for the last 30 years). She picked it when she moved there because it has a great school system. My niece, her husband and their two children recently moved there for the same reason.

Thanks, will look into it. I am a nurse too. What hospital?

Hi- I have lived in Middle Tennessee my entire life. I live in Murfreesboro and love it. I can tell you about the school systems here and preschools if you pm me. I have worked in both school systems in the 'Boro. Generally speaking Franklin has the best schools in the area, but housing is more expensive. Search realtracs.com for ideas on the cost of housing. Right now in Murfreesboro houses are selling for between 80-90 a square foot in houses around 2500 Sqft.

Hey neighbor!!! We are in Murfreesboro too!!! Where do you live? If you don't mind me asking :)

I've lived in Nashville my entire life.
If you want to be closer to Nashville, but still not live IN the city, look into the Donelson/Hermitage area. It's an older area, but very nice. Houses are very reasonable in this area as well.
I agree with Mt. Juliet and Murfreesboro, however, both are growing faster than the roads and construction can keep up with. M'boro has horrible traffic issues because it has been one of the fastest growing cities in the entire country.

Good luck and you should be able to find a VERY nice house 2500 sq.ft. house for between $200-300K, depending on the area.
