I am trying to pick out a warm prom shawl for DD's fast approaching prom. Her gown is teal. http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2891687...Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=6003709&P=2

I am having trouble deciding on a shawl. Which one do you like best out of these two shawls?

I think the first one is warmer but the second one is dressier.

Can you believe my 16 y/o DD does not want to wear a shawl to the prom? It is cold here in CT and she needs some type of wrap. We also looked at shrugs and boleros and she didn't like those either. We have 2 weeks until the prom. Any suggestions?

Edited to add a jacket:

This is the correct color! Do you think it would go with a prom gown? TIA!

Well, I would go with the second one. However, if cold is that big of a factor, would she wear a dressy coat for walking outside and take it off when she gets inside?

Yes. I wouldn't wear one either. I'd only bring a coat for outside. The dress is nice, the shawl distracts from it.

Honestly i wouldn’t wear one either....What happen to taking your dates jacket?
Love the dress

I don't think either one really goes with the dress.
If you are concerned about her being warm, I would do a cute/dressy coat.

I say just wear a coat too. A shawl isn't going to keep her warm outside. If she doesn't want one chances are it will get ditched the minute she is there. Why spend the money.

Dress is beautiful.

Please tell me more about a dressy coat! Would this be a full length coat or short jacket? Can someone head me in the right direction? Nordstroms has very little in the line of evening wraps.

Thanks you for the suggestions!

I prefer to wear a full length or 3/4 length over a long gown. I have 3, a cloak, a rain coat and a cashmere with fur, and choose based on weather.

An evening coat is an investment. The cashmere one I have is from HS, and I'm in my 40s now, so it was an excellent investment.

I saw some awfully cute fur trimmed wraps/capes at Bloomingdales recently though.

Love the dress but wouldn´t wear a shawl with it. At least not a "thick" one. Would maybe wear a thin organza-like dressy one, if I felt I needed to cover up, but otherwise not.

I found a few short evening jackets. I'm not sure I want to invest in a full length evening coat. She may only wear it once!

What do you think of these over her teal gown?

Which one do you like best?

Those are too matronly for a young girl. I'd look for something like one of these - Bebe leather Bebe pink

Thank you Honu! I am almost ready to order the leather jacket. Please look at this teal jacket first.

What do you think? Do you still like the leather jacket best? TIA!

When is your prom??? Prom here isn't until May. I don't like the teal jacket with that dress personally. If the colors aren't the same, it won't look that good either. I would look for a long coat that she can use for other things as well. How cold will it be really though?

I agree completely ! that dress is beautiful and I wouldn't cover it up with a shawl :thumbsup2

ETA.... I don't like the teal jacket either, sorry !

I was thinking something similar to this--found this at Nordstrom. It is something she will wear forever.

I like that ! great choice !

That BeBe coat is wrong for the dress. I would go with a calf length wool coat just to wear out in the elements.
