I was wondering how does everyone get started with their healthy ways. I have diabetes and the Doc gave me 5 to 10 years to live if I don't shape up. I just can't get going I worked out for 3 days and hated it. I can't walk outside cause I have my kids and DH is away for work for the nextt 3 weeks. I need help in kick starting the knew me. I want to be here for my kids. What kind of foods do u guys cook. I can't spend allot of money on just food for myself. So I will take all the help I can get. Thank guys

Welcome toWISH!

You can do this. My first suggestion is to try the library for some ideas on healthy eating programs. If you can review some plans, maybe you can pick something that would work for you.

Try changing your mind about the way you are approaching this challenge in your life. Set up yourself to be successful. You can get it done. Make small positive changes to your eating choices. Reduce your portions, split those in half so you can eat 6 meals instead of 3.

You can also get exercise dvds at the library.

You must do this for you and yor family. Be determined.

Join in any of the threads here to get some ideas with the various challenges that are ongoing. Everyone is welcomed at any time and you will find support as you meet the challenges.

Go for it and let us know how you are managing. We are here for you.

Thank you so much. I started last night. I walk in my house lol we have a huge circle in the house so I walked around it for 30 minutes. I gonna work out on the gazel (spelling) today so I hope to keep positive plus my husband is away right now and I want him to come back and I am 10 pounds lighter.

This doesn't work for everyone, but I recently joined a weight loss study at a local university, and they have me writing down everything I eat and adding up the calories and sodium (it is also a low sodium study). I have always had trouble losing weight, but it has become easier when I see how every little snack I was having added up! I think it is great you are walking around in the house when you can't get out. Dancing in the house is exercise too, get your kids to join in with you. We all need support to keep on track.

I see that you are located on an army base, so I hope I am assuming correctly that you are military. If that is the case you might check witht he Family Service Center, they may offer some healthy living classes, or offer childcare so you can go to the base gym.

How old are your kids? Can you encorporate them in your exercise. Even walking in the neighborhood pushing a stroller or with kids on bikes is exercise. You can go in the yard and play, set up little obstacle courses or play ball or something like that.

I agree, the library is a good resource for information and recipes. Let the kids pick out a couple of books and you can grab some and read while they are exploring the kids nook. And if the library has the Working to the Oldies DVD's with Richard Simmons I know the very first one is a decent workout and you can do it in your own living room.

Good luck, have confidence, you can so it, if you believe you can achieve!!:yay:

Yep we live on a army post. It has been so hot outside but I have been working out in my home. My boys are 7 and aaron will be 4 in 3 weeks :sad1: They love to work out with mommy we have a great time. I have a Denise Austin work out DVD that I have been using. I haven't been doing great with eating better but I have been eating good. I hope to improve more but I am taking it one step at a time. Thanks so much Sonya AKA Disney Gal
