I am trying to calculate my points from dinner and Dotti's website doesn't seem accurate for this....

We went to Outback Steakhouse tonight. I got the Grilled Chicken on the Barbie w/a side salad. According to Dotti's, the Chicken on the Barbie is 12 points. Here is what I had and what I calculated (because I 'tweeked' my order)

Grilled Chicken - I ate 1/2 3 pts
steamed broccoli 0 pts
casaer salad 0 pts
traces of cheese 1 pt
(I brushed most off)
dressing on the side, 4 pts
(although I used the fork into the dressing trick)

I didn't have any bread or croutons. No sauces either. As you can see I think my meal was 8 pts total with the salad. Any thoughts? What am I missing??

I had up 15 points for dinner so it isn't going to 'kill' me, but I didn't want to hit my max. I am guzzling the water because of the spices though! :)

Terry, if you accounted for eveything you ate you should be on target. If you add the other 1/2 of chicken to your total you are at 11, which is right near what Dottie's says it should be. I have found that some days you just need to guesstimate and go from there. Sounds like you were able to enjoy a good meal out with a minimal use of points. :)

i just wanted to say "Kudos for having such a great meal and staying OP!!!":) :) :)

Guesstimates are fine for situations like this.....I find even if I'm off I'm still eating less than if I weren't counting points at all!

Looks like a good estimate to me. The most important part is you ate out and stayed on track!!!

Thanks everyone!!! I really enjoyed that meal! I only ate half of the chicken offered so I thought I was close. I felt the need to check my thought process. :)

Sorry, I couldn't help myself, geetey. I saw your post and don't know anything about WW...I couldn't help myself, I'm weak ;)

Geetey:

I checked Dotti's site, Chicken on the Barbie is 12 points like you said. So, if you ate 1/2 of it...wouldn't that be 6 points (1/2 of 12)?

Also, all the salads listed for Outback have a minimum of 14 points. The 2002 foodlist has ceaser salads at 7 points. Assuming you ditched all the extras & ate the greens only, you are right on with the points the way you figured it as far as the salad goes.

MY best guess is that you actually had a point total of 11 - which is still great!

jbix00,
I understand your point, hence my question here. :) Dotti's site doesn't list the side that automatically comes with the grilled chicken. I swapped mine for steamed broccoli. I am comfortable with either total. I just wanted to see if my logic seemed corrected. The chicken on the barbie has a lot of spices on it (yumbo!) but I didn't know if that would affect the point value. I skipped the sauce. Thanks for your imput! I am a Do It Yourselfer of WW. That's why I need so much help! LOL! :teeth:

Katholyn,
Perhaps you just knew I was talking about Outback, which I see is your favorite place to eat. It had been a while for us and it was SOOOO good! You are right too. Doing a low carb meal there was easy!! DH and I both enjoyed our meals.
