I've never stayed at Poly before and have two weeks left until I finally do. :Pinkbounc I booked a standard garden view but I would prefer to not have a parking lot view and I do want my own private boucany. Can I still get a good view eventhough I only have a garden view? Any suggestions on good buildings/actual rooms to request when I check in? Thanks!

Very few of the buildings actually overlook a "parking lot". If you want nice interior views, choose Samoa, Niue, Tahiti, Tuvalu or Figi (although farther from the pools), or Tokelau. Check this link to the map of Polynesian found on Tikiman's website. Map of Polynesian Resort

Most of the rooms at Polynesian have nice views. Haopy browsing.

We were at the Poly for our first visit this January. We booked a garden view also.

I faxed the room controller a few days before our arrival and I asked for a room in Tokelau, ground floor as far down toward the lagoon as possible. We had room 1913 and we thought it was perfect!

We had a view of the lagoon and Grand Floridian (although not a straight-on view), it was next to the quiet pool and very near the laundry and bus stop. It was a short walk to the TTC to catch the monorail to EPCOT. A brief walk to the boat launch to MK and to the volcano pool (via the beach path). Only a few steps to the beach and a short walk to the main ceremonial house. We thought it was the perfect room!

The ducks would visit us every morning on our patio!

We have stayed there a couple of times, and love Tahiti. We always ask for a second or third floor room so that we have a balcony that overlooks the gardens. It is very quiet, and you feel like you are on a deserted island! Can't wait to go back there in July! You will love it there!

........make sure you stay away from Rarotonga and Rapa Nui. Those are the two buildings with your BEST chance at looking toward the parking lot.......although the lanscaping in between is pretty nice (at least it used to be).

Raratonga is my favorite! We have stayed in that building 4 times overlooking the monorail and it was great! There is so much foilage that you can't see the parking lot. We are going again in April and unfortunately Raratonga is under rehab and we will be stuck in some other building.

Both times, we have stayed in Aotearoa, one trip room #1202, the other just a couple doors down. Both had patios that lookedd out on very nice landscaping. The only complaint is that this bldg. is a little out-of-the way re: pool and TTC.

Good luck, you are going to love the Poly!!:sunny:

I'll put in another plug for Tokelau. Our family has stayed there twice...and we were on the same end of the building that Jackie H. describes, but on the 2nd floor, I think. You get a bit of a view of the lagoon if you look out the side of the balcony...and if you stay on that far end, you can just go out the end exit to watch the Electrical Water Pageant (or whatever it's called).

Plus, Tokelau is a short walk to TTC, which we found quite convenient transportation-wise, rather than riding the busses from the resort or doing the resort monorail.

Enjoy!!

We just stayed in Samoa last week. If you have kids it is a great location because of the volcano pool. We requested 3rd floor balcony facing the volcano pool. We also could see the lagoon and cindy's castle from our room. Also GCH was right out the door to our left. We like this location because we would take the kids for a swim after getting back from the parks. We wouldn't have far to go in the cool night to get back to our room after our swim.:)

I really believe that there is no such thing as "only" a gardenview at the Polynesian. In fact most rooms at the Polynesian are gardenview. Even those rooms that face the parking lots (and that's not very many) have nice foliage in between. Still I would not prefer that view myself either.

If I were you, I would just request a balcony on your reservation itself. Call CRO back and ask it to be added if you didn't already mention it. Then let the Polynesian do its magic. Most of us seem to love whichever longhouse we first get to know...all have advantages but none have real negatives IMO. When you check in, the CM will show you a map with your room's location. If you face a parking lot, you could ask for another assignment.

We stayed in samoa first floor pool view (volcano pool). You could request 3rd floor, closer to the end. We had 1602, I imagine this could be noisy since its peak season, but you will have a great view and balcony on the 3rd floor. I like the location, so close to everything.mug runs to captain cooks, hop , skip and jump to gch etc.

I don't think there are any 'bad' views at the Polynesian. We were in Tokelau, second floor just past midway in the half of the bldg. closer to the lagoon. We did face bldg. Hawaii. But, we could see the lagoon also. In Tokelau, you have either a patio, on the first level or a balcony on the 2nd and 3rd levels. We also liked the area of Tahiti. A little out of the way perhaps, but only about 1 minute more of a walk to main services than Tokelau.

In Dec 2002, we stayed in a newly refurbished room in Fiji. We loved it! We paid for a garden view & requested Fiji & a 3rd floor room. We got what we requested & had the top room on a corner in Fiji. We had a great balcony & our room overlooked the marina, the Volcano pool & the Great Ceremonial House. We were a very short walk to the GCH for our mug refills & pretty close to the pool, too. :) It was a slightly longer walk to the TTC, but not bad at all. I was happy being close to the main bldg for drink refills & snacks. I think you really can't go wrong with many bldgs there - it's a great resort, my hubby's favorite! HTH - have a great time!v :sunny:

a few weeks ago. It was our first Poly trip. We also booked a garden view. We simply faxed in a request to the front desk about 3 days prior to our arrival requesting that we get a view "other than a parking lot." Boy did they ever accomodate us. We loved our building. It was Tokelau - a very nice garden view. Some of the views from Tokelau offer a side view of the Seven Seas lagoon and even the castle.

I think the only buildings that you could wind up looking at a parking lot are Rapa Nuie (I may have the wrong name here) and Roratonga. And, I believe Roratonga is under construction so you won't get it anyway.

Visit Tikiman's website - it's wonderful and packed full of info to help you pick a longhouse.

You'll love the Poly - we did.

Sherr,

Could you tell me what room you were in? I am looking to stay at Poly next February and hoping to stay in the Samoa longhouse.

Thanks:)

Cindy

Thank you for all the help! Just making sure: I should call and request the room before I leave? (only two weeks left!)

Thank you everyone for all your help! From looking at the map I am going to try to request a Figi room 3311-3322 because I want to overlook the marina. Should I call soon? Will it be hard for me to request what I want? Also, it says on tikiman's website that third floor rooms have boucanys and first floor rooms have padios. What about the second floor?

The 8 original buildings (Figi is one of them) have patios on the first floor (not padios - no offense intended, just informative) and balconies on the 3rd floor (not boucanys - again, no offense, just informative). The second floor rooms only have sliding doors with a railing on the outside of them.......so you can hang your beach towels to dry. No balconies on the 2nd floor of any of the original 8 buildings.

When you call (or fax) to make your building request, you need to call 3 or 4 days before your arrival.......and you need to call or fax the Polynesian directly (407-824-2000 and FAX 407-824-3174)........not Central Reservations. The Polynesian Resort receives your actual reservation information ONLY 4 or 5 days before you arrive.

Hope this helps.
