I know there are many of you who can give me some great ideas...:thumbsup2

I'm responsible for making some display boards for someone's 80th birthday party. I'm going to be given photos and need to display them. I will categorize them with one board being family, one board being sports, etc.

Anyone have any ideas of how to make it look better than just a bunch of photos taped to a board?

The party will be at a rented space complete with a sit down lunch, etc.

Thanks in advance friends!:yay:

I think I might choose fewer photos and put mats behind them to make the special photos stand out, instead of having lots and lots of photos.

Maybe the extra photos could go into an album that people could page through over the course of the party.

You could fabric cover the foam core board- wrap it in some batting and then cover with fabric- if they have a favorite team you could use team fabric on the sports one- ect...

Or you could also use digital frames- You could borrow 3 and upload the pictures and have those instead.

Or you could blow up a picture of the Birthday boy or girl- and then have branches connecting out to different "topics" of their life. I don't think I explained that well - think of it like a wheel with the big photo in the center then all the other grouped around it.

another idea is making copies of the photos into magnets- (I have a magnet maker) then they also become a take home goodie. You could set them up on a framed piece of sheet metal.

A simple way to do it would be to buy sheets of scrapbooking paper (they sell individual sheets at the craft stores). The have great theme papers, like baseball, all other sports, family ones, grandma, pretty much any theme. Then cut out pieces a little larger than your photos. This would be like the mats that mickeyboat suggested. Also that way if you have different size photos you can cut the paper to the right size.
Alternatively, buy enough paper to cover the whole board and just put the pics on top.

Good luck! I think this is such a nice idea to have for a party!
:)

I made picture collages for my Dad's funeral last fall. I am not crafty at all, so I don't think they came out awesome, but I did get a lot of compliments on them. I had two large frames, so I covered each backing with scrapbook paper. I also got some scrapbook stickers that had different sayings on them and used them around pictures that reflected what the sticker was saying. Here's some pictures I just took to give you an idea:

Jeez, I've made moreof these things in the last two months than I have in my entire life put together. :lmao: We've had a lot of retirements and graduations.

Here's what I do--I use plain color paper in a contrasting color to the board and cut those to use for mats for each photo. Using a mat makes the picture pop out from the background and gives a uniform look. I also took a shape from the party decorations (like a star or a balloon) and cut it out in different sizes to put in empty spaces between pictures.

For dd's graduation, we hung the boards on the wall so I made two small holes in the top corners of the picture board and then I cut curling ribbon to form a hanger--knotting it on the front of the board with curled ribbon hanging down.

Wow, thanks everyone for the ideas! I love the idea of using solid colors as mats behind the photos. I'm going to do that!!

cepmom - great job! Thanks for the visual:thumbsup2
