I entered this contest called Car Survivor, here is the thread about that.... Car Survivor . I'm on atkins though, wondering if anyone has any good ideas for snacks I can keep in the car with me. We have to drink a gallon of water or sports drink every 24 hours which will be good for my diet, but thinking it may not hurt my atkins too much if I ate some granola, etc... most lo carb bars melt easy... and the shakes need to be refridgerated to taste ok. I don't eat pork rinds, anyone know of a good jerky brand with little carbs? I'm latose intolerant so thats important too.. nothing dairy in the car or else I'll never make it six hours inbetween breaks. What foods won't make me potty, etc. Thanks in advance.

Can you bring a cooler with you with the shakes in it? Maybe others can suggest good, non-meltable, protein bars -- I know they exist, but I don't know the brand names.

How about nuts? Are you at a point in your plan where you can eat veggies, like carrots or celery sticks? Oooh, maybe celery sticks w/ peanut butter?

This sounds like it's going to be exciting!

I read about you on the CB the other day! Good luck to you!:wizard:
I would opt for the:
Atkins bars
Bake Atkins muffins
apples (you'll need the fiber from not moving too much!)
there is no-carb juice I think its called Cabana Ice
water water water
nuts
cheese and lunchmeat rolls
Good Luck!! Im excited to see how you do!!

sunflower seeds
trail mix that is mostly nuts
apple slices with peanut butter on them
Crystal Light to mix with your water
meat balls, if your family can bring them hot
tuna salad (if you can keep it cold) on Wasa Fiber Rye crackers

Be careful with anything that has sugar alcohols! They're notorious for making you gassy and having to run to the bathroom too much! Now is not the time to experiment!

Best of luck in your quest for the car!!

There is sugar-free beef jerky, but I've only seen it available on the net... too late for that, I'm afraid. Just get the lowest carb jerky you can find. Usually the peppered or original are lower than teryaki or BBQ. Slim Jims are a pretty decent option, if you like those.

WalMart has a good brand of smoked almonds... though they're a little salty. Maybe not so hot if you won't have a lot to drink! ;) How about some macadamias? Nuts would be a great idea.

Make yourself some pepperoni chips... just put pepperoni slices in between layers of paper towels & microwave for a minute or two. They'll keep just fine without refrigeration, and will be something a little crunchy. I'd take cheese chips, too (microwave cut-up american cheese slices until browned... they crisp up & can be used as crackers), but I don't know if they'd affect you or not.

I'd make up some bran/flax muffins to take. They should be OK for a couple of days.

These are really good:

-----

Almond Thins

1 cup almond flour
1 packet of Splenda
1 egg white
pinch of salt, garlic powder, & onion powder

Preheat oven 325. Mix ingredients well. Place mixture onto a well greased piece of tin foil. Spray a piece of wax paper with cooking spray and lay over top of mixture. Use a rolling pin to roll out to a cracker thickness. Gently remove wax paper. Sprinkle more salt on top if desired and press lightly into dough. Score with knife or pizza cutter into squares. Lay tin foil on rack in oven. Bake until golden brown about 10 minutes. Makes around 50 crackers.

Carb count is about 13 for the whole batch. You can also vary the flavor-use ranch powder, ground bacon bits, season salt...

Anything you can take in ziploc bags (that will then fold up small & take up less space!) would be great. If you want fruit, I'd go with Granny Smith apples... lower glycemic, and if you haven't been eating sugar, will actually taste sweet!

If you want protein bars, there are lots of low-carb recipes. Try a search in Yahoo/Google, or look at www.lowcarbfriends.com.

5 people in a Geo, huh? Good luck!

Thanks for all the ideas everyone, now I'll have to make a shopping list. :D
I'm so nervous it's all I can think about... I looked at the specs on a Geo Metro and its only meant for 4... not even a fifth seatbelt. OMG, what did I get myself into...lol!
So incase it has hit anyone yet, I DO visit the WISH board for a reason... I have a lot of weight to lose, I actually feel bad when the time comes in the contest that I will have to sit in the middle of the back seat with the other two people.. ouch! :earseek:

DFiance thinks this if it goes a week or two will drop me down a bit. We shall see. I've already gone from 360 to 296, this morning! Yahoo the 100 mark is fast approaching! I can't imagine I could have even thought about doing this six months ago, no way... yahoo Atkins! ::yes::

Sorry we won't be able to get to Melbourne to cheer you on. I'll be watching for you on the news, though & cheering you on. You can do it!

Good luck....just remember no matter how tired you are of sitting in that car, STAY IN IT! You can hold out :)
