We are leaving on the Disney MAGIC this Saturday and I don't know what to do. I rec'd a once used Pentax Optio33 LF (whatever that all means) from a family member & can't for the life of me figure it out. :confused3 It has already been set by the previous owner, but try as I might ( I have read the directions, several times, honestly....and I am by most standards a pretty bright person) and am unable to re-set it or even take a sample pic.

Any advice,? other than go buy a few disposables. I'd really like to be able to post pics, email to friends etc of our trip.

Is there any chance that you are turning it on into review mode instead of picture taking mode?

You might want to make sure it is in auto mode while you are learning to use it.

Is there a memory card in the camera, and is it put in properly?

Also, note that almost all digital cameras have a two step shutter button. If you are gently pressing the shutter and only going to the first step, it is only setting the focus and exposure. Try and see if you need to press a little harder to reach that second step.

If none of these help, please try to give us any more details . If you work outside the house, you might want to see if any of your co-workers know how to use one. You could take it into a camera store and ask them to show you how to use it. If it is not working, they would let you know. Do not tell tem that you think it is broken, because they might want to keep it for a few days to look at it. It could cost you $ even if nothing is wrong with it.

Good luck.

some companies have manuals, trouble shooting and tutorials online...you might want to check the Pentax site. i've emailed Canon a couple times about stuff not working the way it seems it should  ( lets just say it's always been "user error" in my case)

Are you in the market for a new camera and do you have a COSTCO near you?

If the answer is yes to both this may help you out.

Buy the camera you think you want from costco (if they handle it) and test it out at Disney. If you like it, keep it. If not return it for a refund. If I remember right they have a 30 day no question asked return policy. Just be sure you return everything in the original box.

I was looking at one there and it didn't have a battery in it. I asked if they had batteries to put in it to try it out and the guy said no need to, if you buy it and don't like it just bring it back for a refund.
