My DS (22) has been dating his girlfriend for over a year and a half now. They're still in college so there's no wedding plans (yet, anyway!!)

She's a real sweetie, but I really don't know her that well....she's not from around here.

I would appreciate any ideas!!:D

A picture frame.

How about a nice contemporary frame in which she could put a picture of DS. Or if you have a nice picture of them together, you could frame that. Girls LOVE pictures.

I am in the exact situation with both sons. One is 23 and the other is 21. I have 2 girlfriends to buy for.
For the older one I bought some cute gray jersey jammies at Victoria Secret. They were even on sale. The bottoms look like drawstring jogging pants and the top like a camisole, and I bought the drawstring shorts also. Like I said, they were on sale!

For the younger one, my DD is going to help me pick out a piece of silver jewelry like my DD likes. Nothing real expensive. $30 -$40 range.

These girlfriends have been around like 2 years now and I really love both of them.

For my DD's boyfriend of 2 years, I bought a pair of Eddie Bower leather slippers, they were also on sale!!

Good Luck!

how about a gift certificate. i know it isnt personal but you really dont know much about her. i really wish my boyfriends mother would buy me gift certs instead of the stuff she gets me sometimes.

I also love this idea. I got this the first year she was here. A nice basket of lotions from Victoria Secret or Bath and Body.

How about a nice necklace, gold or platinum or a nice watch, if you are thinking she will become a permanent member she will have a momento.
Other gifts ideas? How about Bath and Body basket...or better yet put together a basket of your own to include stuff she might like.

When in doubt, I always go with the gift certificate. :)

another one who recommends gift certificates. my mil means well most of the time, but i WISH she would give me gift certificates. we do not have the same taste at ALL.

Gift certificates are so common nowadays, that I think it's approriate.

That way she can get what she wants:D

I like the photo idea and the gift certificate idea. You can give gift certificates for anything from gasoline for her car to theater tickets. She can choose her own gift and if she's in college she will probably really appreciate a gift certificate. That's like cash money ;)

Or something from a nice (nationwide) store plus a gift receipt :) That way it shows you tried, but understand if it isn't quite right.

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font color=#006400>I like the idea of a gift certificate, too - sometimes I get lotions & stuff - which I love - but not in an aroma that I would ever use.... Maybe you can get her a nice photo frame or candle holder or little planter/plant or wall decoration, or.... with a gift certificate attached. That way she does get something personal from you, plus some shopping money she could use....

Good luck. :)

I like the Gift Certificate idea and the Body Lotions too. Or how about a bottle of perfume? Does your DS know what kind she likes? If she has a favorite scent maybe a Yankee Candle or something similar?

Younger DS has been dating his GF for a year now. Since she's always cold, I bought her a down-filled throw blanket. Now I'm nervous about this because she's somewhat allergic to our cat - are the chances great that she'll be allergic to down? DS didn't know. If I find a soft, non-wool, maybe cashmere-type throw, I might take the first one back. I'm also going to get them a GC for dinner out.

I like the photo idea. If you can't get a picture of the two of them together how about just a nice picture of DS? Also, Yankee Candles would be nice or a gift basket of Bath and Body Works stuff. I am sure whatever you chose, she will appreciate the jesture.

I vote for the picture (if you have a good one of the two of them together) and a gift certificate (bath and body or victoria's secrete) also. I think everyone's right, that would make a great gift, both personal and practical.

Some GREAT ideas here!!! Thankyou so much!!!

Gosh, I wish I had a cute little pic of them 'cause I know she would just love that with a picture frame.

I'll probably do the gift certificate at Bath and Body.:D

Gc to Bath and body works, Gc to Bookstore, A gift suscrption to a magazine. Anything Disney, Sweat shirts. I'm not much of a picture person but that's me most girls love pictures of their SO.

I have a photo idea, with a twist. (I know someone who did this for someone and they loved it.)

Find a picture of your son when he was little, frame it, and give that to her. Most girls get big kicks out of seeing their BF's when they were little, esp. if the pic is of them doing something especially cute.

Of course, I don't know anyone who doesn't appreciate GCs either!

This will be the third year in a row that I DS's now fiancee has received those flannel pj's bottoms and a comfy top to go with them. I am also given her a set of stainless flatwear this year too. Ask your DS is she collects anything. DS's fiancee likes things with butterflys so we have given her butterfly things too.
