I have ground turkey thawed out, but I don't know what to make. I've never made ground turkey before. I know some of you must have some good recipes. Can you give me some ideas? I have reflux issues, so I have to be careful what I make with it.
You can use ground turkey for pretty much anything that calls for ground beef. We especially like it for tacos.
I don't find regular ground turkey to be that much healthier than lean ground beef unless you buy the ground turkey breast. Then it is a lot better, but also pricier.
I am using mine for taco salad tonight. It is a favorite around here. Just brown and add taco seasoning. Then make up salad using whatever you like/have on hand. Top with cheese, beans and cantalina dressing. Yummy!
Ground turkey also works well in baked ziti, but personally I use it for just about anything I would use ground beef for except making burgers.
You can cook anything with ground turkey that you would cook with ground beef. I make a lot of turkey burgers with onions and feta cheese, mexican lasagna, chili, spaghetti bolognese, etc...
Do you have the regular ground turkey or ground turkey breast? It really does make a difference when using it as a ground beef substitute. The ground turkey breast doesn't really work for that.
I make Turkey Burritos. Just brown the turkey with a bit of onion and minced garlic. Then add a jar of taco sauce and let it simmer a bit. If you like beans you can add those too. Once this is done just fill tortillas with the mixture and place them in a baking pan. Put some more taco sauce on top (if desired) and some shredded cheese. Put the pan under the broiler until the cheese is bubbly and you're done! I serve them with salsa, sour cream, shredded lettuce and diced tomato.
Thanks for the ideas! As much as I'd love to make the tacos, lasagna or meatballs, I can't have spaghetti sauce.
I made the ground turkey plain and put it in flour tortillas with cheddar cheese. The kids put taco sauce on it, even though it didn't have taco seasoning. They liked it!
I use turkey to make meatballs - sweet and sour metballs or for spaghetti and meatballs. As long as theye's some kind of a sauce - I cannot tell it's not beef.
I use ground turkey to make shepherd's pie. Instead of veggies between the turkey and mashed potato I put low fat cheese. You can also put corn or mixed veggies between the layers. I season the turkey with pepper, salt, oregano, and garlic powder.
I use it to make meatloaf in single portion size. Basically a flat meatball. It turns out so good. I add onions and garlic, an egg, a cup of breadcrumbs, and a spoonful of seasoned tomato paste. Throw it in a frying pan with Pam and you're done.
