I need cheap easy table decor for 60th anniversary out there? (UPDATED) post 17

My parent will be celebrating 60 yrs of marriage in August I'm doing an open house for them at their church an need cheap easy table decor for the tables.

The church hall has 10 or 12 long lunchroom style tables so I might need more than 1 per table depending on what it is.... I DO NOT WANT something tall that would be in the way of talking from side to side of table or from one end of table to the other.

I'm thinking something that the guest could take home with them to remember my parents with, I could even go with small jar of honey with a personalized lable (I can get lables or stickers made at the cost of the ink) Not sure what the honey would cost me.

Any ideas for something cheap an easy?

Here's a few ideas:

Take plastic spoons and dip in melted chocolate, drizzle white chocolate over them for a decorative look, and everyone can take 1 home to dissolve in their tea/coffee/etc

Take "hugs & kisses" (hershey's "hugs" have the almond in the middle if I'm not mistaken, and regular "kisses") and put one of each (or a couple if you wish) in cello wrap, tie with a pretty ribbon coordinating with the colors of your party, and let those be the "take home" gifts

Chocolate dipped pretzel rods decorated and wrapped in cello wrap with pretty ribbon

Each of these ideas you could tie a little poem thanking the guests for coming, their friendship, etc with your mom & dad's name. Also line the middle of the table with these, or have small baskets on each table (a couple of baskets if needed for each table) tied with pretty ribbon and have the gifts inside the baskets

At my aunt and uncle's 50th they used framed photos of themselves at various stages of life as well as of their children and grandchildren. They did have round tables. I loved the idea as it fun to see all the photos. I even made sure I went by each table to see all the photos. I think the photos came from their home as well as my cousins' homes.

It was not a favor, but what I thought was an awesome idea.

What about small potted flowers? In August, you should be able to find inexpensive mums. You could paint cheap terra cotta pots white (or even add a little glitter to go with the "diamond anniversary" theme). Add flowers in whatever color the couple likes. You could add floral wire or the plastic card holders you get at the florist to hold photos of the couple over the years. Then guests could take the flowers home after the party.

Perhaps you might consider a small bundle of Hershey kisses wrapped in netting, tied in ribbon with a simple card attached. You could use the color theme of your party (or of their wedding if they had a special color) for the ribbon. The card could simply be a printed poem or verse or quote appropriate to the day or just saying Thanks for sharing our day. We did this recently for a wedding reception and they really looked pretty on the tables, the guests loved the candy and nobody ended up having some little keepsake that they really didn't need or want. You could also attach a small charm to the ribbon. Simple, inexpensive, and guaranteed there won't be any leftover.

Well 60 is Diamond.....so I would glitter the heck out of something.

For my parents 50th, we used balloon bouquets attached to gold spray painted cardboard "hatboxes" from Michaels. We used heart shaped boxes, but any shape will do. The balloons are high enough that they don't interfere with table conversation, but the whole look is very festive as soon as you enter the room. We used rose colored balloons on top of rose tableclothes. And some gold cloth draped over the serving tables as well. We even placed additional balloon bouquets inside solid colored large gift bags (from the Dollar Store) to line the entrance to the banquet hall.

For favors, we did Giradelli chocolate squares in a small gold bag. I like the Kisses wrapped in tulle idea. Best of luck and enjoy the celebration! --Suzanne

Cello bags or netting with the Hersey's Hugs & Kisses sounds great....use a silver-glittery ribbon or a clear one to tie the bags (keeping in mind the time of year and where you will be - melted chocolate is messy

I know that some of the local dollar stores have bags of "fake gems" - get the clear ones and just put them here and there in the center of the tables (the 60th is the diamond anniversary) and just cut pieces of curling ribbon around 2 - 3 feet long and then curl them using scissors and mix them along with the bags/diamonds/whatever

My suggestion is to pick a color theme and stick to it. It really makes the table pop... For example I went to a wedding shower, where the hostess had use the colors, Brown, White and Pink. Everything was in those colors, White and Pink roses tied in small vases tied in bunches with brown ribbons with pink dots. Table coverings were in those colors and all the Sweets and snacks in those colors. It was very nicely done.

There was a thread somewhere on this board about using candy for the theme - using it for the decor and then favors. Seems like it was for graduation/bday/wedding, maybe called a candy buffet?? Pictures were very cute that I saw.

Thanks everyone! Parents are very plain country ppl, intrests their religion, mom crochets and sews not much she has not made some time or another, then there is moms poetry she can write like none other. Dad has done bit of everything from making rabbits out of peach pits, to drawing, making jewelry( many different kinds) cookie sheets out of stainless steel, cow bells too, mostly now he lays in his recliner hopes the day passes without him having to do much.

At 1 time they gardened veggies an flowers, dad an I had honey bees, oh an the raspberries an blackberries an persimmons etc. Age got in the way even tending an waterin flowers not much joy now.

I like the curly ribbon idea with the stones, got to think about little ones with the stones tho so maybe rose petals. I think an the M&M's that are personalized or the candy kisses in netting or tulle even lace or eyelet will work tie with pretty ribbon that matches ribbon on table or lace in plain white with glitter on it at one end of the ribbon tie a tag with a saying on it that fits in with their anniversary.

Even a square of pretty material to tie the candy in would be nice my aunts might have something to donate.

Mom has suggested serving cookies (homemade) instead of cake no plates no forks needed but for some reason I got my heart set on cake so might do both.

Maybe instead of honey jars you could do honey sticks? Might be more budget-friendly. Our health-food store sells them for about 5 for $1. You could tie on your message with a glittery ribbon. The photos on the table were the first thing I thought of. We did that for our wedding and it was very nice. Get them all in matching frames (cheap from Walmart and spray paint them to match your theme) and put them on the table. The cookies idea could be very nice if you had a table with the cookies all on different levels with sparkly tulle around the bases. My mom has done this for weddings - she spray paints coffee cans, etc., in white, then sets the cakes/platters on top of them so the they are all different heights, and then winds tulle around them all down the table so they almost look like they are floating. It's really pretty, and adds a lot of visual interest. You could still have a cake, just put it in the middle of the table. Are you going to do a guest book? You could have a large framed photo of your parents at that table, as well. Fairy lights in ficus trees are always pretty, too, and easy to do. Good luck! I'd love to see photos of whatever you decide to do.

I've decided to make tissue paper flowers to lay on the tables an scatter some silk rose petels around an the ribbon curls. Will do the same on the food table just doing cake an punch I think or tea, lemonade an coffee.

I'm making a beauquet of 6 flowers for my parents table....1 flower for each decade. Those I think I might put in a vase an scatter some ribbon an rose petals around.

I'll get a wicker basket for their cards an decorate it with the tissue flowers an some ribbon.

I'll make a collage from old pictures to display an maybe see if I can talk DD to scanning some to put on a cd that we can have displayed.

Just to throw another idea out to you.

I saw a great idea for a anniversary centerpiece a couple of years ago. They took 4 4x6 frames, printed out old pics they had scanned in sepia tones on vellum paper, then glued them onto the frames and used the 4 frames to create a box on each table. Just glued them together at 90 degree angles. Then they put a votive candle in the middle of each box. It created a centerpiece of 4 glowing pictures of the happy couple.

For a simple table decoration, you can use curling ribbon just string it out and loop it around a few times, and they make confetti has numbers on it or says happy anniversary to sprinkle on the table.

Red hots in a small glass or crystal bowl looks pretty.

You could also use jewels or beads "Diamond" of course in a vase or bowl, add water and a floating votive candle.

As a gift for the guest, Hershey kisses in tulle tied with ribbbon, You can also find ribbon, printed with names or happy annv. just check out the wedding sites.

You could set a table up with a guest book or make a book that people could write down there wishes or special message for the couple. I would put a large vase of flowers on the table.

I will be planning my parent 50th for next year these are the ideas that I have jotted down.

I'm trying to stay away from glass the hall has concrete floor and while I do like the diamond looking stones they are just the right size for little ones to pick up an put in mouth and possibly choke or swallow including my own gbaby so I'm avoiding those. There will be a set of twins there that are only going to be about 11 months old an a couple of other toddlers.

The confetti I might use HMMMMMMMM maybe not as it stands with the tissue flowers, rose petals and curly ribbon when the partyis over i can scoop it all in a bag an use all the decor for another birthday party or something.

I am having a banner made with happy 60th anniversary on it as it stands I'll have way more decor than my parents are expecting....

I've shown my tissue flowers I've made to a few ppl who was all very impressed with them....they are so cheap an easy to make yet so elegant....
