We looked this morning locally in our small town... maybe found one.
Now, my sister says try a sleep number, you will never go back to a regular bed.
Geeze those beds cost $3,000 for a king.....

What type of bed do you have? was the cost reasonable? I just don't know anymore. But we need a new bed.

I'm a WI girl too and we've been in the market for a new bed for a long time. *sigh*

We looked at Sleep Number beds at DH's insistence and I *hated* them. After laying on them for a while, DH decided he didn't care for them either.

You are sleeping on 2 air mattresses in 2 separate chambers (which you can feel). I can go to the store and buy 2 air mattresses for less than $100. I'm certainly not paying over $3000 for them. ;)

Some people claim they are the be-all end-all in beds. We didn't agree. We've found a Foster Sterns we really like, we just need to get to the store and order it! :)

My son slept on a sleep number for 2 years and hated it. He said it constantly lost air and it was a pain. I don't know, our stores here push the temperapedic but those scare me too. I keep thinking it will dent and never recover after awhile.

Whatever you do, try the bed out before you buy it. We bought a bed after trying it out and it was great. But when the bed was delivered it was really, really hard. We called the bed store, they sent someone out and discovered that they had left out the memory foam when the bed was made. They took it back and got us another one.

I'm a WI (well, now FL) girl too so <HI!!!>. We had a Sleep Number at a hotel in DC once. My DH and I HATED it. Like a PP said, you can totally feel the two separate areas/zones. And honestly it just was really uncomfortable.

We are in need of a new one as well, and have been looking at Temperapedic or something similar, but I'm afraid of how warm it will feel.

We had a Sleep Number and also hated it. We now have a TempurPedic and I LOVE it. DH can move around and the dogs can jump on it and you don't feel a thing. I can't imagine going back to a regular mattress.

Oh, yeah. We had one in a hotel too and I also hated it. You could feel the too different areas if you moved across the middle. There was a ridge in the middle.

My mom has a sleep number and hates it. There is nothing particularly wrong with it, it's not loosing air or anything, it's just not that comfortable.

My mattress has a pillow-top, and I will never do that again. The mattress underneath is still fine, but the pillow-top is not anymore.

I stayed at my aunts earlier this year, and she had a basic mattress (no pillow-top) with a 2 inch memory foam pad on top. It was so comfortable. When I get around to replacing mine, that's what I'm going to do.

Have slept on sleep number beds in hotels, it's sort of a glorified air mattress, I would not buy one.

We originally had a $1,500 pillow-topped fancy mattress & box spring set, and it was pretty worn down with valleys by only about 7 years in. When I was pregnant, I'd get trapped inside a valley and have trouble heaving out of bed, it was ridiculous.

We ended up buying a $550 mattress & box spring set, I'll have to go check the label, it was one of the "S" brands (Sealy? Simmons? not sure). Figured even if it only lasted 3 years, I'd get the value/year as from the fancier set. We've had it 2 years now, still very happy.

Personally, I won't pay for a pillow top again (memory foam toppers from Overstock are more cost-efficient).

We bought a Serta memory foam mattress with a gel insert. It sleeps cooler than a Temperpedic (or so they claim). It took me awhile to adjust to it--but now I like it and my back aches are non-exsistent.

Our pillow top mattress is why we have to get a new one, after six years. Stupid thing has two valleys on either side and a ridge in the middle. We will never buy a pillow top again.

I am with your sister. 16 years on a Select Comfort....we will never go back. However, we bought the top of the line with pillowtop. My parents didn't and weren't thrilled with theirs. We have a temperpedic in the guest room, king size, no one likes to sleep on that! I agree you should test in store.

You know what I don't get about the sleep number bed. You find your perfect number and then you never change it again. You pay all that money for a function you use once then leave alone for 10 years. :goodvibes

I'm in the market for one also. I figured I'd go out on BF and see if anyone has some deals. pretty much I'm going to go to do a massive "lie around"

We got the Serta version of a Tempurpedic a few years ago and it was almost $2,000 but it was completely worth it. I used to wake up sore all over but not anymore so I'm never going back to a cheaper mattress.

I love our beauty rest mattress and box spring set. I think it was around 1500.00. I was 7 almost 8 months pregnant and trying out all the mattresses in the showroom. I couldn't take my old super firm mattress anymore. Our store no longer carried sleep numbers, said they had too many issues.

Beauty Rest - World Class is what my next mattress is going to be. Slept on one in a motel for several nights and loved it. I believe it runs around $2000 for a King (unless you find it on sale).

We had a sleep number and it killed my back. It didnt matter what number it was on. Gave it to DS and he hated it too. We bought a tempurpedic 2 years ago. I love it! Yes expensive- we got the adjustable one. But it's the best sleep me and hubby have ever gotten.

Do you have the split one? Or is it just one large piece?

My husband THRASHES in bed. I can't sleep.

We have a Stearns and Foster and it's like sleeping on a cloud. I love to go to bed at night! So comfy!

We purchased a Stearns & Foster bed (plush top, but not pillow top) about 3 years ago and like it pretty well. I spent a lot of time laying on different beds in the stores in all different price ranges and styles. It all depends on your individual preference. Some folks like firm beds, some love fluffy soft beds.

I will say that if you decide to go with any type of coiled bed, make sure the coils are individually wrapped AND make sure there is a band of foam around the edges of the bed. If there is no foam around the edges, when you sit on the edge (ie: to get out of bed), the coils will be uncomfortable.

We were on a budget of about $1400 for a queen bed, but down the road we plan on buying a Cali king Tempurpedic bed (one of the top of the line ones). We don't have a big enough bedroom right now for a king (let alone a Cali king...my husband is 6'5" which is why we want one) nor do we have that much money for a bed currently!

I have heard a lot of positive and negative things about the Sleep Number beds -- it seems you either love it or hate it. I don't think I would like one but I have not personally tried one before. As far as Tempurpedic beds go, I have heard NOT to buy the lower models...upgrade to the better ones. And, just about everyone says not to get a "knockoff" brand of that type of mattress.

Mattress shopping is right up there with jeans shopping in my book. Worst ever!
