can you suggest where to look for ideas?

I have thick wavy hair - that frizzes in the humidty - or when i brush it - its past my shoulders now - I don't want to go much shorter than my shoulders.

Right now it goes in a ponytail every day. If I'm going somewhere I will etiher put a headband in or part to the side & put a barrette in it.

I'd like a style. YET I'm not one to spend tons of time on myself. I would like something that would make me look put together without spending forever. I'm not gonna straighten it daily or anything like that.

I have googled looking for pics - using all kinds of tags - but of course it pulls up everything but what I'm looking for.

I can't even think of any celeberties to google. Any ideas?

I've had the same hairstyle for a long time.. shoulder length hair with side bangs swaying from left to the right. I have super wavy hair, so I take a shower at night and then I flat iron my hair in the morning.. or throw it in a messy ponytail. I get it layered quite a bit, so when I throw it up, it actually looks really cute and not like your average ponytail.

I just got mine cut today i have think hair that tends to frizz up somtimes.

I got a super choppy cut and plan to add volume to it but you can wear it flat easy.

Something like this? Long layers? Looks like it would only require a blowdry.

Mabye a shorter version of this Carrie Underwood hairstyle? Again, I can see with thick, wavy hair, it could be achieved with a blowdry.

Have you ever considered the Keratin Hair Treatment? I think it is expensive but lasts months, just a thought :)

I have thick wavy hair, past my shoulders, and alway get it cut in long layers. After I wash it, I use 2 products - a de-frizzing hair cream, and a style gel. I blow it out with a round ceramic brush, and it comes out great, and I can get 2 days out of it. If I don't blow it out, it looks pretty gross. Every new stylist I've ever gone to has asked me if I every wear it curly, and offers to show me how, but I like it straight. I don't know anyone who has hair that allows a wash and wear cut - you need to put in a little effort. It only takes me about 20 minutes to blow out my hair.

I have wash and go hair. I blow dry it just to speed up the process but I don't have to. I put a little gel or mousse in, dry it (takes about 3 minutes) fluff with my fingers and add some hair spray. The key is to get a good cut. I went to one of those quick in mall places once when I had to reschedule my regular appointment and couldn't get in on time-HUGE difference in how much work it takes. I don't even spend 20 minutes on my entire grooming process (dressing, hair, make-up, etc.).

DD15 has thick, wavy/curly hair. She has it cut in long layers. If she straightens it she showers the night before, lets it air dry and then straightens in the morning. Lately she has just been letting it go curly. She showers in the morning, put in some Dep Sports Style gel and scrunches her hair and she is done--that takes her about 3 minutes. If she straightens her hair it's about 20 minutes. She also uses "Shine Drops" to help control the frizz.

This. I have thick wavy hair and my hair 'behaves' itself easily when I bother to blowdry it. It frizzes like crazy in the humidity, but I've just learned to work with it. If your hair is longer than an inch, you're most likely going to have to put *some* effort into it.

If I leave my hair to airdry, its a wavy frizzy mess unless I put mousse in it - then its a more controlled wave. If I blow dry it, it goes straight pretty easily. If I put a bit of the shine serum it in before I blow dry it, my hair practically sparkles. But it all takes *effort*.

When I have it long (like I do now), I usually have blunt, full bangs and either let it go wavy (the longer it gets, the less wavy it is) or blow dry it. My hair always has long layers which cuts down a lot on the frizz/poofy factor.

Agree with everyone else who suggests layers. While my hair isn't very thick, it is way/curly. I usually like mine no longer shoulder length, with long layers and I like bangs to keep hair out of my eyes. Right now my hair is below the shoulder and no longer managable, especially if I leave it to air-dry. It's pretty limp from too long between trimmings. I like to use Curls Rock curl creme to tame it, and a diffuser on the blow dryer if I leave it curly. I don't blow it out smooth too often, too much work most mornings, but will straighten more often after some shaping by the stylist.

I always look to see what Lauren Graham & Julia Roberts are doing with their hair, mine is the same way, it's thick and heavy and can either be worn curly or wavy, depending on my mood & the product. A hairdresser at Saks ONCE cut it so it had to be worn straight and it took me 2 hours to make it like glass, I will never ever do that again, I still hate that woman 20 years later. I have learned to love my curls and I don't ever let them cut it above the shoulders because it fans up and frizzes like Rosanna Rosanna Danna when too short :rotfl: the weight of length is my friend.

I will use Pantene Curly gel for loose control and Bumble & Bumble Hair Cream for a nice tighter curl, I pull out the Ouidad Humidity gel for Disney or August.

Lauren Graham has such pretty hair. I think her's is naturally curly, and she's straightens it. I think it looks even better a little curly.

Mine's straight and getting rather long (almost to my waist). I think sometimes about cutting it off, but right now I'm letting it grow.

Thanks for the ideas! Y'all have given me some great new products to try!

My hair looks best when I let it dry naturally - many days the curls are perfect. I have longish layers right now.

One more question - I've been having it thinned out for years - but had someone different cut it & she said to not thin it at all :confused3

I did FINALLY find some celebs pics I like (it took me hours - LOL)

I like Autumn Reeser's hair - how she wore it @ the People's Choice award

When you thin it, those strands are made shorter and therefore, lighter. Those shorter strands will frizz up.

AHHHH - didn't realize that! I figured there'd just be less hair there - I wasn't thinking shorter just fewer strands.

Even on my short hair if I get it thinned it is frizzy. Same with getting a razor cut, much frizzier with a razor cut (and harder for me to manage).

Thanks! I definitely won't ask for thinner then!
So it sounds like long layers & find the right kind of gel/mousse & I'm good to go. (I've tried many - but not the right one yet)
