I need a mechanic

Went to start the car this morning, just so I could drive it to keep the battery charged so I don't have issues on Tuesday morning and it wouldn't start. UGH! Wish they would have just replaced the battery when I took it in two weeks ago.

Yeah - once a battery is ready for recycling, just a few hours may be enough where it won't start a car. Maybe keeping it charged with an external charger might help.

look back on the first page. I said you need a new battery. Nothing you can do about that now. Good luck

I really really wish they would have just replaced the battery when I took it in two weeks ago. I was pretty surprised that they didn't.

surprised they didn’t recommended a new battery since you drained the one you have now. A lot of batteries will never be the same after that. Some will be ok. But with the cost of a new battery it’s just better to get a new one and be safe.

They may not have wanted to deal with a warranty claim at that time hoping it'd work out for you for a while. Not that mechanic shops can't be the same but I'd expect more push back from the dealers on warranty issues.

Depends. Way too many variables. I've had some batteries that needed a jump start several times and still lasted 7-8 years. But that might have been early in the battery's life and where I made sure it got a full charge with an external charger.

Do that a few times near the end of a battery's life and it might not come back the same.

It's worth looking at the condition of the battery. Sometimes an older battery will leak and leave a powdery mess when it dries up. Then there's the loss of water due to evaporation. Lead-acid car batteries are never sealed.

Another issue is that the terminals may be corroded and need to be cleaned. A new or freshly charged battery might mask the problem. It may not show up when testing the open circuit voltage, but can make a difference when it's trying to start. Some use sandpaper or a metal wire brush. Or even completely replace the terminals and cables.

i know what I’m talking about. Not like some people here who thought it was the transmission.

Do you have a problem with anything stated? All we’re doing here is making educated guesses and seeing who guessed right.

So took my car in today. Got the battery replaced and also all the door latches that were on warranty.

Paid $78 vs $204 thanks to the prorated warranty. Of course I had to remind them when I picked up my car about the warranty. I was prepared for them to say sorry it was your fault we can't honor the warranty but they didn't.

Hopefully this is the end to all the problems.

Has anyone tried to get an appt for their car which is still under warranty and had to wait 3-4 weeks for an appt?

Took my Honda Pilot in for a recall yesterday. Made the appt online on Saturday. Could have gone in same day if I wanted.

You are fortunate Service manager told us overall most are experiencing loss of mechanics with few going to trade schools for auto maintenance and repair. Our local service department has 3 mechanics. Add in vacations, sick days, and attending necessary schools and this decreases appts. Wait time 3-4 weeks!
