I need a job!

Anyone have any ideas on how to get one? I've got my resume posted on the three main websites (monster, hotjobs, and careerbuilder). I search those hourly, along with buying the local paper and picking up the jobzone weekly (a weekly free job search paper).

I've even drove an hour away and signed up to a temp agency hoping to get my foot in the door but they're still searching for me.

Am I missing something? Maybe it's just the area (Palm Desert is very resortish...but it's a booming market, so I hear). Maybe it's just the economy.

I know i'm qualified for an important position within an organization...so what am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any advice.

Well, by qualified, do you mean you already have experience or just a peice of paper? (degree)

both

unfortunately, the contacts that i've made don't extend to California.

Any way you can make your contacts extend to California? Is there a professional organization in your field that would provide networking? How about people you have worked with in the past -- really think about which of them might know someone. How long have you been out of school? If not very long, contact he profs that know you best and see if they know anyone.

If you don't have many contacts period where you are now, you might try volunteering for a nonprofit. You would meet people and you never know who they might know. If the volunteer work can be related to your professional work, that's even better.

Dh is having same troubles here in Ohio. He has over 8 yrs in his field but it is near impossible to find something. The positions he has found all pay half what he was making. ALthough at this point he will most likely take whatever he can get so we can pay bills. Good luck!
