I need a Discount Code education!!!

Help, please...

I got so much help from these boards last year as I planned our first trip. I am planning our second for June '05 and I have been casually watching the boards for Early June tips.

Anyway, I want to stay at a moderate resort instead of off-site this time. I have NO CLUE about what discount codes are. I see bits about them here all the time and I've seen them on Mousesavers. I don't understand - is it like a race? When do they come out and who are they for? Anyone? I have seen the same Disney ad in the travel section of the Dallas M. News for months with discounted rates - from $99 for moderates through part of July. Is this a "code" - do they get even better?

Hope y'all can pardon my confusing questions! I guess I just want an explanation - every detail about discount codes. THANKS, THANKS, THANKS!!!!

You go to bed at night dreaming of the perfect WDW vacation, then in the morning you surf over to Disboards and veiwing the different parts of the Dream vacation on the Dis forums.
After finding the codes open a file on you computer for a spread sheet and type the date and info, in this case the codes, and the discount , then go on your merry way surfing the vendors websites you want to purchase from plugging in the codes from the contributions of Disboards members, sign up to sites that are recommended for getting e-mail alerts from the vendor you wish to do business with. Set time every day is neccesary to repeat the above steps until you get the desired result or you may happen upon an alert from a Disboard member as to a "MAGICAL DEAL!" Act on it immediatey, there are others, travel agents and purchasures who will not delay in scooping the lastest deals.

It seems like the good discounts come out just prior to the season in which you are traveling. The codes that are out for April to Jul 4 seem to have come out about 4-6 weeks ago.
The good news is you can book the moderate resort you want now and just pay for the first night and then keep your eyes open for codes- when you see a discount you can call WDW reservations and they will apply the discount.
If you are going in June, I would start looking after Xmas.

When trying to book a room with a discount code keep in mind that only a certain number of rooms are available at any given time for that code. If you wait to long after the code comes out there won't be any rooms left for that code and your stuck. Take it from me...I learned about codes too long after booking my trip (POR 4/29-5/3) and no room were availble for the codes I tried (3 different codes on 3 seperate occasions). If a code doesn't work the first time you can keep calling and hope someone who booked a room with a code cancels their reservation but remember you may never get it and just run your phone bill up since Disney does not have a 800 number. Good luck and call early!

O.k. Thanks! Now, I have seen the promotions in the paper. Is Mousesavers the best place to watch each day ? And what about those codes I heard about in Spanish language magazines...can anyone use them? I feel a little more confident now... One more thing...the paper lists PACKAGE moderate prices as beginning at $99. Will I be able to find close to this price without a package for the first of June do you think? I guess I need to know if I budget $125 (inc. tax) for a moderate if that is wishful thinking. Thanks again!!!
