I need a clue! Help with points/reservations please!!!!

Hi everyone....Just got back from a great AKV week long trip. Was so happy and was my first trip home.
Now a question...My UY is March and I have the lowly minimum points of 160. Was just on DVC website and I have 165 points ( I had banked a measly 5 that I didn't use.)
It says: total allotment 160 total remaining 165
available to bank 160 available to borrow 160

I was thinking about taking my niece who has a college break in January for a Sun-Thurs quick trip by using 13 points for CL. Then, in October I want to go for a week sometime in the beginning of the month---at Kidani and I know that I can start booking 2 months from now. I think I can borrow if I need to for that trip but my long-winded question is:

Can I make a reservation for January and access the points? In my mind it seems that I can! It is just not making any sense to me...I guess because of the March UY...are those points not officially available until March. Well thank you for any and all answers, I hope it makes sense to someone!!

Yes, you can make the January reservation now. Points need to be available for the dates of the reservation. You will need to borrow points from your 160 '09 points. The 5 '08 points that you banked into '09 cannot be borrowed back into '08.

That said, you may find it difficult to book a Concierge room at AKV only a few months out. There are very few CL rooms and they go VERY quickly. You may luck into something, but I'd have a solid back-up plan just in case.

Thank you so much for your quick answer! I will have a back up plan...I was just thinking CL because the points are soooo low for that time of year but I will take what I can get. I will check the airlines and see what is out there for flights and the dates my niece has off. Her birthday is this weekend so that would be a great present. Hey then I won't have to come up with anything else short notice!

Grrrrr....I finally got around to calling today at 4pm and they closed at 2pm! I should have gotten my priorities straight and put work aside! I really want to take my chances and make airline reservations because I found a good one today but I have no idea what availability is like in January so I should wait. ahhhhhhhhhhhh.

I think waiting is probably wise. January is a very popular time at DVC resorts since it is Adventure Season. I'd make sure I had a room somewhere before committing to airfare.

You do realize its 13 points per night, not 13 points for the whole Sun-Thurs right? The way you had written this made me worry a bit.

On line if you open up the detail for each use year it gives you a much clearer picture of your points for each year and their status.

Thank you, yes I did realize that and that is why I was maybe thinking of doing Saturday too b/c I think the airline was cheaper! But thank you for paying attention when I am not1

Just booked at SSR 1BR for Jan 12-17. Can't wait to tell my niece....her birthday is on Monday. It will be so great to leave the snow behind for awhile during January when the weather is usually in the 20's or 30's. Thanks for your help and take care!
