We are stopping on the way up to Maine -- DH said to try Portsmouth, but all the rooms are around $150. Anyone have an idea of a cheaper place, we've tried Priceline, will try again.

What part of Maine are you going to? Smaller "towns" in Maine might be cheaper than Portsmouth. Let me know-I'll try to help!

antkim, I was thinking the same thing. Or maybe somthing in Mass. right before the NH border?

Best Western in Seabrook

we're paying $68 per night - our 6night pkg poolside comes to $425
it may be about $80 for one night

I think that anything near the beach or in Portsmouth is going to be expensive. Some of the towns more inland might be cheaper. If you are going up I95, you could try taking Rt 16N to Dover (about 10 miles). You might find something cheaper there. Might also check on Newington - right next to Portsmouth but not as touristy. Seacoast NH in the summer tends to be very expensive. The further inland you go (as long as you don't go so far you are into the Lakes or mountains) is likely to get cheaper. Good luck!

I also agree it might be cheaper in a little town in maine...like where I live!! Adorable inn's...very reasonable!! :teeth:

What route/interstate are you following? 93,95,495?

Back in March, I got a room at a Radisson in the Merrimack/Manchester area, for $45/night from Priceline.

We are heading up to Ellsworth, will probably cut over to 95. DH thought Portsmouth would be a nice place to stop, although we won't have time for touring, will head out first thing in the AM.

Maybe I can help a little, here's a couple of links for you.
I-95 Lodging in NH We have stayed at the Anchorage Inn, it used to be a decent hotel, not sure now thou', haven't stayed there in a few years!? & they had a free cont. breakfast. I know there is also a Residence Inn, Best Western and a few others also in Portsmouth Circle area/exit too.
We ALWAYS go to Newicks in Dover, NH. for lunch and/or dinner when in the area. I think there is a Days Inn or a Comfort Inn in that area also, but not sure, SO......
Check out these links also: Portsmouth Area Lodging AND I-95 Lodging in Maine
Good luck....hope this helps.....let us know how you make out.

There are a lot of small motels along Route 1 between, say, Seabrook and Portsmouth. They're certainly not the fanciest, but they are sometimes quite affordable.

And I'm going to 'second' the Best Western in Seabrook. It's RIGHT off I-95, you've got Master McGrath's restaurant across the street, and the greyhound park just a couple hundred yards down 107 if you want some entertainment.

Thanks Lisa!!
I was just up there two weeks ago, but only for the day, didn't stay over (my brother & his family had a cottage in Hampton Beach).
I used to stay overnight and shop at the Kittery outlets, found some great deals, but remember NH has no tax and Maine(Kittery) does!

Hope Kallison finds something....that area is quite expensive (like Cape Cod) in the summer!
Here's a couple more links!
Anchorage Inn-Portsmouth
Days Inn-Dover/Durham
Dover, NH.

Like I said....Good luck!

When are you coming??? I could rent out my bedroom to earn a little extra Disney $$!..............P
