I miss the old Community Board

I wish we could have a debate board on this site? Maybe someone would consider this?? I have know idea how this board runs and the politics behind it but it would be something to think about. I have no problem with the threads that are posted but alot of the topics I could google to find the answers.

There was a debate board here many years ago.:surfweb:

I don't miss the politics threads at all. I come on here to relax- some of the threads just made me mad reading the titles!! I like it much better without the politicking.

I still don't understand this point of view. The TITLE of a thread upset you?

I miss it too!! I loved reading the political and religious threads. I love a good debate. If I thought something was too heated, I simply didn't open it or stopped reading it. No problem for me. Now, I find coming to the community board generally boring.

Frankly, I'm glad the Community Board isn't peppered by thread after thread of outrageous title threads. It was aggravating to have to read them just to find the more general threads.

BUT, I do wish there was a separate debate board where those threads were kept.

Heaven forbid this place be "nice". Oh the horror!

I like nice. Nice is good.

Do you really think things are "nice" around here now? I do see a lot of fluff posts and those are kept nice but I have been shocked at the nastiness in some of the most simple posts. I would much rather see those types of responses relegated to the religious and political threads instead of simple, everyday posts where people get their hackles up over essentially nothing.

ITA, Mary Ann.

To the OP: If there are no topics that you find interesting, then start a thread. If all you find interesting are politics and religion threads, then there are message boards and websites devoted to those subjects.

I like the changes. I would prefer if the old debate board was back in business so those who wanted to debate would have an outlet and I could totally ignore it. But I'm quite enjoying opening the CB and not having to look at threads that are purposely named to rile people up.

I agree.. There are millions of topics to be discussed - pick one and start a thread..:thumbsup2

I also wouldn't mind seeing the old debate board back - basically because all of the controversial subjects would end up there and fewer threads on the CB would become hostile.. I was one of the ones who enjoyed the Debate Board, but when things would get too heated, I could zip over here for a little relief..:goodvibes

Nicer...yes. I do find it nicER.

Ii think one of the problems were that the political threads were rarely debates. very quickly they turned into name calling and insulting. While I enjoy debates on a variety of topics, I don't think it's a good fit for an internet blog. People say a lot of stuff they would never ever say in a live debate. some times anonimity brings out the worse.

I was happy when they banned the topics. I was another one who was begging for a political forum. I don't mind talking politics, but people were never adult about it. By page 2 it was all ad hominems and baiting. It was pathetic that adults couldn't discuss their views in a calm manner.

I stopped clicking on them, but then people would title their posts specifically to rile people up. I love the DIS because I like Disney. Sadly, I do not have immediate plans for return so the various planning forums are of little use to me at the moment. I like that I can come here and ask questions and shoot the breeze with fellow Disney lovers until such time that I can start planning a trip. And when that time comes, hopefully I will have made friends on here who can help.

I was told by a mod that the reason they got rid of the debate board was specifically because people could not play nice. Apparently it was a nightmare to moderate, just like the CB became a nightmare to moderate during the elections. If people could just grow up and debate without all the name calling and hystrionics then this never would have happened. But unfortunately politics and religion turn nutjobs of us all.

I haven't been on The Dis in months. It is pretty boring now, but the main thing that keeps me away is that loading the pages are sooooo s-l-o-w!!!!! I don't have much patience for internet pages that load as slow as dial-up.

The debaters have all migrated to a couple of other Disney forums where there are debate boards (and the pages load much faster :). Unfortunately, The Dis lost a lot of great people in the process. I do agree though that there were one or two posters who would start a ridiculous thread to get everyone's hair on edge, and then they'd sit back and watch the fireworks. That part I don't miss.

I miss it.

I like some of the political talks and a lot of the religious topics. I learned a lot of things and felt like I could ask a lot of questions and get answers from some very nice people.

I don't like any thread that gets nasty. I wish there was a separate board for political threads and even religious threads.

I visit the JK* thread. Why? I have no idea. Probably because there are so many different thoughts and views being discussed---at least that keeps it interesting. Too much fluff here, really.

I like the planning boards etc. for planning a trip but the CB was where I got my news and stuff like that. The CB has become boring and stale.

You don't need a debate board to have a civil conversation about politics or religion. All you need are mature, intelligent adults willing to have a thoughtful exchange of ideas......:lmao:

Hmmm... to debate, or not debate... are we having that debate? :upsidedow

I miss the debates over politics and religion, but I don't miss the nasty attitudes. I think there was a lot of good information and opinions shared, but it only takes a few to take it personally and ruin a good thing.

I'd like to see a debate board here, but I fear it would just turn ugly again. I'm sure it's not easy to police the offenders when there's such a huge volume of issues.

You think this one's been sanitised? Try looking at the UK Community Board - anything remotely interesting or inviting any kind of personal opinion is promptly closed. That one really is dull as dishwater.

I find things very boring now. Very few threads have any spark or "bite" to them. No interesting points of view to ponder. The new rules also killed many of the interesting finanical-related threads, since they are related to political policy.

Like another poster said, if you have don't have a Disney trip planned anytime soon, this site lost much of it's broad appeal it used to have.

I admit I am losing interest. Barely read for a few minutes anymore. But alas, things change and people move on - such is life on the Internet.

I agree. I like adult conversation. Don't seem to find too much of it here anymore. Likes learning new points of view or experiences. Don't get much if any of that anymore. :guilty:

Yeah, I know what you mean. The atmosphere is also a little stifling now.

I just looked in on this thread. Just for the fun of it, I did a search on the OP about other posts. Of the 100 last posts by the OP, 98 of them were in this forum (and two on restaurants).

It is my understanding that DisBoards is primarily for discussion of various aspects of Disney, and that the Community Board is designed for those itejms which do not apply specifically to any other forum.

It is my opinion that a person who only posts to the Community Board is not really a member of the Disney Community and should probably be on a Social Networking or othe board. For example, I am very active on at least nine other forums, and my posts here are fewer than five percent of my total posts.

I post in a lot of different boards here on the DIS - I miss the political and religion threads. I wish they were allowed again
