I miss the old Community Board

I get my "politics" fix now on newspaper-related comment sites. I find that several of the big-name papers (even some that are reputedly liberal) do have genuinely GOOD debate in the "post a comment" areas.

As one who got "in trouble" last year for a comment made to a DISer (one now permanently on my ignore list as I still don't care for her/his posts), I avoid controversial posts of almost any kind now on the DISboards.

You named the "one who must not be named".... 20 lashes

:lmao: What a guy!!!!

I miss everything about the way the CB used to be. I always have. And have always said so (a zillion times, sorry about that).

The bored people come here because it is like the Cheers pub...it is just comfy and we *know* people and they *know* us. But I really miss the funny threads (which happen but are few and far between) and the deeper discussions too.

The current CB is the old CB.

It's pretty much the way it was when I joined in 2001.

The only thing missing are the Yankee Candle threads.

Oh and a good old fashion Honeywolf thread.

That was before my time, since I don't remember those!

Yankee Candles: smell great, but too expensive.

Honeywolf: no idea what that is!

I like the reference a poster made to this place being like the Cheers pub.:thumbsup2

I was thinking, there are 4 ways to think about what the "Old CB" was/is.
Pre getting rid of the Debate Board.
Pre-banning of last year.
Pre-no religion/politics threads.
The "real" old days when the board was started.

For me, when I think of the Old CB, I think of the pre-banning of last year days. Coming in a close second would be before the Debate Board was taken down. I hardly ever participated in the debates, but I read the threads and loved many of those characters. The only reason I can think of for shutting it down (and the political/religion threads, too) is that it took too much time for the mods to monitor it all because things became heated so much and they'd have to spend hours reading it all to get rid of the name-calling. I can understand that because the mods are volunteers and there are only so many hours in a day for them to be reading every sentence.

I think in general, we do get a lot of leeway here on the Dis over what we say, compared to other Forums I belong to. There are also a couple of Forums I read where anything goes, and I'd hate for the Dis to become like that.

When the political threads were shut out, I was disappointed, but I do understand that they can't please everyone. Out of all the boards I go to, the Dis is my favorite. :thumbsup2

Edited to add: was Honeywolf a person on the Debate Board? I may be having a flashback.
