I miss the "Frontierland Hoedown" VERY much.
I've really enjoyed it and I hope that it's at least just on hiatus right now.
It's been one of the best of the more "minor" entertainment highlights at the Magic Kingdom...and it's very fun and interactive and a lot of the guests who saw it/participated in it seemed to enjoy it.
The Hoedown also gives "atmosphere" and "life" to the Frontierland area. Also, the Hoedown is fun, interactive and they've given out those free "I kicked up my heels in the Frontierland Hoedown" stickers to those who participated in it, including myself. Those stickers also seem to give the Hoedown importance/superiority IMO, since trying to get guests involved in entertainment highlights seems to have always been an essential ingredient in Disney's shows and parades.
The Christmas holidays are already over, so they should now be able to get the cast back. However, I was told that some of the performers/dancers are currently on 2-week vacations after being kept busy performing in the holiday shows/parades. It's possible that the Hoedown will come back when those vacationing CMs return.
Also, I've been told by several MK cast members and 2 of the MK's security managers (Dusti and Michael, who know EVERYTHING about what's going on at the parks) that the Hoedown would most likely return after the conclusion of the Christmas holidays and/or when they have the cast available, when they budget it and when they have college program CMs.
If not by January, maybe it'll return in the summer. The Hoedown, in a way, is kind of like something more suitable for summer than for winter anyway. Besides, overall the Hoedown comes out mostly seasonally/sporadically throughout the year. Why, it came out seasonally/sporadically throughout 2002.
Luckily, the Hoedown costumes, props, etc. are still available/accessible to the cast--that's a good sign.
I apologize for writing so much. It's just that I needed to get it all out.
Frontierland Hoedown, please hurry back!
