My boss just told me today that they will probably be closing the store, and moving to another outlet mall about 40 miles away. They want me to go with them, and he even mentioned something about giving me a gas allowance, since I will have to be making an 80 mile a day round trip. I just cant justify it. I still will be getting only 25 hours a week. My boss said maybe three 8 hour days. I dont know what to do......:confused:

Tinkerpixie, I wouldn't travel that distance for 25 hours of work. I would start looking for something else now.

TC:cool:

I'm sorry to hear this. I don't think I would drive that far for 25 hours a week. I hope you can find a better job near you.

I'm sorry to hear this Susan. I am not sure what I would do. I only drive about 20 miles or less round trip to my job so I couldn't imagine having to go double that one way. I would probably be looking for a new job. Good luck {{hugs}}

I would not drive for 25 hours a week for just any job. However, I would drive it for my job. I have a great boss, wonderful work environment, great pay, good benefits. I would be willing. So, you'd need to weigh the benefits against the drive. There's wear and tear on your car, extra time away from your family, stress on yourself due to the drive. If the cons outweigh the pros, find another job closer to you. If it's the other way around, consider taking it. JMHO :D !

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I think I'm leaning toward Jasons solution!:D

I have been in retail practically my whole life, and I have a lot of experience, but in this area, right now, jobs are scarce. I guess it's time to start pounding the pavement, and polishing up the old resume.

Wish me luck.....:D

It's always sad to hear someone is losing a job. Best of luck in your job search. :D

Best of luck to you Susan. I am sure you will do great with the job search :)

Best of luck to you Susan! I know the feeling of losing a job...perhaps you could stick with this job for now until you find something closer to home? If it were me, I would tend to stick with the job for as long as possible just because I don't adjust well to change, especially if it is a job you enjoy and a boss and co-workers who you get along well with. Are the 25 hours of your job stretched out to everyday of the week, or do you work just a few days a week? If it is just a few days, I would still consider it since the commute would not be all week.

(((HUGS)))
