I may have just lost a "free" trip

I'm in the middle of a relatively complicated point situation - own at resorts, had a few points borrowed from 2011 to 2010, some banked from 2009 to 2010, made an October home reservation at 11 months, changed the Oct reservation a couple of times at 7 months, in the middle of adding on more pts at both home resorts, changing the incentive/cotntract on the add-on from the initial write-up...

So, I made a long weekend reservation for the end of August last week with our new add-on pts (2009 pts - currently two reservations, one night on wait list). I have the reservation#s and the reservations showed on the DVC site. But I was confused because the remaining pt balance for 2009 equaled the add-on pts as if they weren't pulled when the reservation was made. I was a little nervous whether the reservation was still good, so I called MS to verify.

MS was rather confused too because when they pulled up my reservations they showed that the pts for the trip came from...no where. The MS rep tried a couple of things and couldn't get the trip to take the pts, and the supervisor was baffled too.

Eventually the MS rep says she did something and the pts are now deducted from the 2009 UY correctly. She said it might take a bit for the member site to refresh - it still looks like I have all the pts to me.

Makes me wonder if I wouldn't have called and brought it to their attention if I would have had a free pt trip.

This same thing happened to me. A day later the points were correct without any call to MS. My guess is the same thing would have happened to you. I wondered the same thing but decided to give it a couple of days since my add on was so new.

I'm fine using the pts - that's part of why I called too.

MS did say something about how the system will auto-correct these kinds of situations a day or two after the reservation is made. But even when she did whatever she did to usually kick off the autocorrection - it still wasn't correcting. She was real puzzled when she looked at the details behind the scenes that the pts didn't come from anywhere. I think the autocorrection she referred to will correct the balances as long as the underlying transaction/reservation is okay (I've worked with some systems that work like this) - but the transaction wasn't okay in my case.

Or course as she was trying to get it to work, and not succeeding for a while, I offered to keep the trip on free pts since it was giving her such a hard time.

I just checked the member site again and our points are showing correct now.

It sort of sounds like a possible systems glitch doesn't it. But perhaps it's one of those that the autocorrect system couldn't handle and an alert would be generated to manually fix it. May be that is why it takes a couple of days to get it to show correctly on the website.

We just made some reservations that seemed complicated to me but at least borrowing wasn't involved. We did learn you have to be sure that MS/or the system really use the banked points first. Everyone always says the system will use banked points first, but we now know that sometimes it can't. And sometimes MS cannot reallocate the points without canceling all of the reservations. But luckily it worked out.
