My mornings are usually very hectic. No matter how many lunches I make or clothes I lay out the night before, I'm always running. So, this morning, per usual I'm running like a crazy woman and herd DD out of the house.
About 10 minutes away from home, she realized she forgot the doll she was going to bring for Show N Tell today. She wanted to talk about how she was practicing being a big sister with her new doll and how much she was going to help me after the baby was born.
Normally, I would tell her to forget about it because the extra 20 minutes would have made me very late for work, but I knew she had her heart set on it and I turned around. The utter joy in her face and voice when she said, "You're turning around?!?" made me both very happy and very sad. Happy because the little things make her so overjoyed and sad because in my daily routine, I don't do those little things nearly enough, especially in the morning.
So, a pre-New Year's resolution for me is to focus more on the little things that matter a lot and try not to sweat (or obsess about) the big stuff that, in the long run, matters very little.
