"I"m Only Going Because My Teacher Told Me To" Nov. 2016 PTR * update 12/2 TRIP REPORT STARTED! *

If you don't mind me asking, where did you want to book that you couldn't get?
I'm trying to book for a table of 9. The boys wanted TRex and they could not do it, without being split up. My DH was against that. We also have a food allergic child and two young ones that need help eating so it was just difficult. I had a hard time getting a dinner for 9 on Nov. 12, but settled for a 3:40 time. I also had trouble getting dinner on Nov. 13 and settled for The Plaza. It doesn't have a very good allergy menu. My son has the top 8 allergens so this one we may cancel. My mom's only request was CRT and I couldn't get a table of 9 for breakfast, lunch, or dinner for our entire stay. I could get 8, but decided not to be that person that "doesn't know" you have to include the baby. In the end, we can tweak. I made three more reservations today and my DH is freaking out from the cost. We will probably have to eliminate, but I love our choices now. I think we really got some special ones.

Checking in! Excited to read all of your shenanigans beforehand, maybe I'll grab a few tips along the way! We are anxiously awaiting Southwest to open their flight schedule TOMORROW!!!! Then ADR's next week. It's so close!

-Cape May Café for dinner (new): if you happened to have read my TR from last November, you know that Ricky LOVES mussels and had them/rated them at 5 restaurants on that trip. He'd like to go back to one or two of those places and also try some new places that serve mussels, and CMC has them on the buffet certain nights. Plus, we'll be at the BC for 4 nights so it's convenient :thumbsup2

-Narcoossee's: Torn between Citricos and here! Unless we do both.....another place Ricky enjoyed the mussels.

-'Ohana: for dinner. We've done this twice but not for a couple years. The guys enjoy it and Chris asked the other day if we can go there again. It's not my favorite but I like to make everyone happy so I'm considering it!

These are three of our ADR hopefuls! We loved CMC...we are all seafood buffs though, so if you are looking for more of a diverse buffet, this wouldn't be one of them, unless you stop over at the kids section :)

I am super excited for Narcoossee's, especially with reading your TR and having you express more in depth about how delicious it is!

What about 'Ohana is not your favorite? This was a pick from my dad, he was pretty excited about getting meat delivered to his table whenever he wanted. I don't eat red meat, so hopefully they have a lot of chicken and shrimp skewers coming my way.

Wow! I didn't realize your party was that big :) And I can imagine the allergies make it more difficult. I was going to say The Plaza is pretty good but not so much if they don't have a good allergy menu.
As for T-Rex, did you try calling them directly? I know there's a # although I don't have it. We've also never eaten there but I know many people have luck actually calling the restaurant, as they don't release all their reservations to Disney. Also for CRT, last Nov. I didn't decide until about a month before we went that I wanted to do breakfast there, and after MUCH searching we finally scored one. As you said you can tweak, and I think there's a good chance a CRT will open up especially if you aren't picky about which meal it is ::yes::

:welcome: Thank you for coming on over! Good luck with flights tomorrow, let me know how you do!

Yes, CMC won't be my favorite meal of the trip I don't think, but it'll be convenient since we're at BC and Ricky will be happy to try mussels at a new place. I did see a pasta on the menu, so for me it'll most likely be salad, hopefully a decent pasta, and dessert! And if they have the regular Disney chicken nuggets on the kids station, I'll grab a couple of those. Not sure why but I love me some Disney chicken nuggets lol!

I am super excited for Narcoossee's, especially with reading your TR and having you express more in depth about how delicious it is!
So I take it you're planning to eat there, great!

What about 'Ohana is not your favorite? This was a pick from my dad, he was pretty excited about getting meat delivered to his table whenever he wanted. I don't eat red meat, so hopefully they have a lot of chicken and shrimp skewers coming my way.
Well, I guess there are just so many other places I prefer. I do love the salad and noodles. I'm not the biggest fan of all the meats on a stick. I don't eat shrimp so that's out, although Steve and Chris LOVE the shrimp there. Then the steak never seems to be done the way I like it so I didn't end up eating it either time we were there. The chicken was good though. And finally, although I may lose readers when I admit this, I'm........not a fan of bread pudding, even 'Ohana's :o :rolleyes1 I love dessert so I end that meal not quite satisfied! I'm sure your dad will enjoy it and also FYI, you can have as much of the chicken/shrimp/steak as you want. They'll keep coming around with all the skewers plus if you want a certain meat and they aren't bringing it, just ask.

So I take it you're planning to eat there, great!
**I have it in my Disney planner for dinner on Black Friday...however I saw you mentioned something about that may be a hard night to get reservations, good thing I get to work at 7am the morning I can begin making ADR's...hopping right on and hopefully snagging a 5:30 seating

I had my mom call T-Rex when our days opened up, so it actually wasn't me who talked to someone there. I actually called first thing this morning just to double check and I was able to score a 9 person reservation for our second day. We wanted to be at Disney Springs to visit Erin Mackenna's bakery for our allergic son, so this is perfect. The only bad thing is now I have to get rid of 'Ohana.:sad1: I really wanted this one. It's all about the kids, right? My DH is going to make me get rid of probably half of what I have. We have 5 kids so the cost is through the roof. I just don't want to part with any of them. I'll probably only keep three. Let me know if you need any reservations. Right now I have two BOG lunches.

It's (almost) Time!

Well, we're down to 6 days until I make our ADR's! I've been tweaking a bit but I *think* I know now what we want. Maybe. Probably? Okay, I know what I'm going to book on Monday but I'm also pretty certain that at some point between then and our trip, I'll be changing something!

So here's what I'm thinking as it stands right now. Monday I'll be making our ADR's for the 19th-23rd:

11/19: dinner at Cape May Café
11/20: lunch Mama Melrose, dinner Tokyo Dining (somewhat later so we can watch Illuminations from there)
11/21: PPO breakfast Garden Grill, dinner Narcoossee's
11/22: lunch WCC, dinner BOG
11/23: breakfast Captain's Grille, dinner Yak & Yeti

Then Friday the 27th I'll make these, unless a nice dining CM will let me make them Monday:

THANKSGIVING! dinner Grand Floridian Café, 2nd choice the Wave
11/25: dinner Restaurant Marrakesh
11/26: lunch Liberty Tree Tavern, no 2nd choice yet

As you can see I made a few changes, and most of them are due to my realizing I won't be able to make all my ADR's on the 23rd. For instance, I had Narcoossee's on Fri. the 25th but moved that to a day I can book first, because I know that will be harder to get than Marrakesh which always has availability. Also added BOG dinner, couldn't stay away :goodvibes And I had considered doing that on the 25th but again, wanted to get that squared away Monday and this way if I can't get it for the 22nd I can play around with the 20th and 21st.
I also changed WCC to lunch instead of dinner, because I needed an open night for BOG dinner! I actually like the lunch menu better anyway. I'm really, really looking forward to this and I hope they do all their shenanigans at lunch but I'm not sure they do. The main reason I'm hoping they do is Chris. He does not enjoy servers who pick on you and but I enjoy watching servers pick on him :rolleyes1 As an example, here's a picture of him on our last visit to 50's Prime Time Café:

He was miserable :rotfl:How bad a mom am I??! I think our "cousin" had just told him either to get his elbows off the table or that he had to eat all his vegetables. He can just be such a pisser I love watching his facial expressions in these situations. But, if it's just lunch with no added fun so be it; food is fun for us!

Then I changed our Tusker House to Yak & Yeti. We do enjoy the food at TH but honestly, I don't need the characters. We'll get characters at GG. Ricky is over them, and I actually prefer meeting them out in the parks. It was fun when the kids were little and I don't mind doing the GG breakfast since Chris asked and the food was so good last year, but I hate being interrupted while I'm eating and having to be aware of where the characters are so you don't get caught with a mouth full of food :headache: I know, party pooper! But that's why I did it. And we enjoyed Y&Y a couple years ago and have wanted to go back. I know they most likely won't offer any dining package for whatever nighttime show is going on at AK come November, so we'll have to just go with a FP for.........whatever.

Then my final change was to try for GFC on Thanksgiving before the Wave. I read a review and they really talked up their Thanksgiving meal there last year and it made me excited-yes, food gets me excited! And the regular menu looks good for any of us who don't feel like a Thanksgiving feast that day. I can't book this until next Friday but my guess is it should still be available......I hope  Speaking of not being able to book everything come Monday, I was talking to Chris's teacher today (rented our points from her SIL). I was considering, at the suggestion of @jandlinz, asking her to call DVC member services Monday to book my last 3 days of dining. However Chris's teacher mentioned today that her Brother and SIL are going to Disney tomorrow night through Tuesday since our schools are closed Friday for a non-used snow day, so she won't be around. Ah well, I'll attempt calling myself after I book my first few days online and see if I get a nice CM, but I'm pretty much expecting to do those days on May 27th. Again, other than the holiday I don't expect to have trouble getting Marrakesh and hopefully not LTT.

Holy Moly this is long and wordy! I'll end the pain for you guys now. If you read through this whole boring mostly picture-less post, thank you!

A Public Service Announcement and Why Does Aladdin Look So Mean?

I didn't want to make that last update any longer or more painful, but I wanted to tell you guys something! I wandered in to Kohl's today and was greeted with the new Alice In Wonderland line by Colleen Atwood. I tried a couple things on but was very good and didn't buy anything, although I may go back for the Helena Bonham-Carter Queen of Hearts tank........
I was very excited to see the line and took a few pictures to show you, in case anyone else feels like shopping:

The dress is adorable but runs SO BIG! I tried on a medium which is my normal size, although sometimes I go up or down. I was swimming in the medium!
This shirt isn't from the Colleen Atwood line, just a Disney Alice Juniors collection they have in there now
IMG_3508_zps29zevbvv.jpg
[/URL]
Both collections had a lot more pieces that were cute. Have fun shopping!

Later on I ran into Barnes & Noble. While on line I noticed they had the new(ish) Disney Lego figures behind the counter. I know about these but haven't gotten any or even seen them anywhere yet, so I decided to pick 2 up - for Chris, because of course I'm too old for Lego's :rolleyes1.
I might have opened them in the car and found out I got Ariel (yay!) and Aladdin. But I was a little confused by Aladdin's facial expression:

He looks so mad! So pissed! Not friendly and caring like movie Aladdin or parks Aladdin. What's up with that?
That's all! Just had to share my Disney related day with people who may care :)

Good luck with the ADRs! I'll be watching for an update on Monday!

Love the tank! Have you seen the Hot Topic ones?

I need those Lego figures for AJ! I wonder if I can get them online somewhere. I have no time for shopping anywhere right now!

OMG, I laughed a little too hard at the pic of your son. I am holding onto WCC until mine are a little older, but I totally want to go there for the exact same reason. I hope you get your shenanigans! I also hope you stumble upon a kind and knowledgeable CM who will go ahead and book all of your stuff for you on that first day so you can relax...until the inevitable urge to tweak things gets the best of you (if you're anything like me).

I need this in my life! I also like the white shirt, because I truly do live in my own little head sometimes!

We got our flights! Well...we got flights down...unsure of how or when we are getting home. Flights down were decently priced, $150 pp Tuesday 11/22 540pm departure-935pm arrival...which is great, because all we wanted to do was hang out at Disney Springs that night anyways. Now flights home were upwards of $450 pp...so we may extend our trip into Monday and get somewhat cheaper fares home. All depends on my brother and if he wants to take an extra day of his very minimal vacation days. Or we keep checking for fare drops, or we suck it up and pay the hefty price. Either way..we are going, and I could care less right now about how/when we are getting back!

I actually called first thing this morning just to double check and I was able to score a 9 person reservation for our second day
So glad you got T-Rex! I've seen many pictures of their food and it all looks good.
The only bad thing is now I have to get rid of 'Ohana.:sad1: I really wanted this one. It's all about the kids, right?
Well, now you know you have to plan a trip back to fit 'Ohana in :thumbsup2 Definitely all about the kids, especially when they're younger.....
We have 5 kids so the cost is through the roof
Oof! I can only imagine. Knowing what it costs our family of 4 I completely understand why you'll probably narrow your ADR's down! But there are so many good/fun places to eat, I'm sure wherever you do end up going you'll enjoy.

Good luck with the ADRs! I'll be watching for an update on Monday!
Thanks!
Love the tank! Have you seen the Hot Topic ones?
I've seen a bunch of their new Alice ones in the store but none with the Queen of Hearts on them. Do they have some? Maybe I need to check online :scratchin
I need those Lego figures for AJ! I wonder if I can get them online somewhere. I have no time for shopping anywhere right now!
I swear when they first came out I read here or in a FB group that you can order them either from the Disney store online or Toys R Us online. You must be busy, only a couple weeks left before you go :goodvibes

OMG, I laughed a little too hard at the pic of your son
LOL no such thing as laughing too hard at him, I believe he's here to provide humor for all of us!
I also hope you stumble upon a kind and knowledgeable CM who will go ahead and book all of your stuff for you on that first day so you can relax
Thank you! From all the reports I've read I think I have a 50/50 chance. Guess it just depends if Disney's going to love me that day pixiedust:

Glad you got at least one all set! That's a good price but yeah, the $450 home is a little steep. Hopefully it'll go down some, although I like the idea of extending until Monday myself lol

Either way..we are going, and I could care less right now about how/when we are getting back!
That's the important part!!! Whenever we fly during months it can snow here, I only worry about the weather when we're heading down; who cares if it's snowing in NY the day we're supposed to fly home from Fla?? Once I'm down there that's all I care about :)

I can't make all my ADR's on the 23rd because we have a split-stay
Not sure how I missed this post but yesterday and today was my 180 day mark. Technically we have a split stay since the 14th is room only. I didn't put two and two together to figure out I was able to book for the 15th too since we were checking out then checking into our FD package. But I got the Boma and at 9:30 last night I picked up a prepark BOG at 8 am for the 15th. But anyways do you book all online or call? It was super glitchy on the laptop and the apps (I had my phone and iPad). I also read some of the Group on Facebook had trouble calling in saying their system was down too. I think the recent release of fast pass booking at the same time has the site all messed up. All in all I got everything I wanted even a prepark Crystal palace and my beloveded single diner BOG on my last day, but it took me over an hour online and didn't give me many times to choose from. :surfweb: Stressful experience to say the least but figured I should send some warning. Maybe this was the worst of it since a lot of us Free Diners had booked.

@ariane37 I'm not sure if they have any tanks with the queen of hearts but they have a whole collection so I would think so. I could very well be wrong, though.

I'll have to look for the Legos.

Yes, this week is a complete wash. I'm just trying to get through the school day which is completely full of paperwork, assessments, ceremonies, etc...then dealing with the boys by myself til the hubs gets home, then pretty much hanging out in bed reading the DIS, then sleep. Everything else must wait. Next week won't be as crazy but it will still be somewhat. I'm friggin' exhausted right now!

He was miserable :rotfl:How bad a mom am I??! I think our "cousin" had just told him either to get his elbows off the table or that he had to eat all his vegetables. This made me laugh. We are eating dinner here on Saturday. I am hoping they don't make me eat my vegetables.

Then I changed our Tusker House to Yak & Yeti.

Hope you like the change. I was actually trying to change to a Y&Y but couldn't get in, but have gotten in by stand by before. We haven't dined at Tusker House since they added Character dining. Y&Y have good appetizers if you guys ever get those.

He looks so mad! So pissed! Not friendly and caring like movie Aladdin or parks Aladdin. What's up with that?
That's all! Just had to share my Disney related day with people who may care :)

Maybe he didn't get a BOG reservation, like me? :lmao:

Like the shopping pictures you will have a great Disney wardrobe by the time Thanksgiving roles around!

And I don't know how I missed this post! Glad you got Boma, CP and BOG :thumbsup2 I always make my ADR's online and honestly have never had any problems. However, I think you (and your FB group) are right about the site being glitchy due to the change in FP booking time. I'm just glad I'm not making mine today with the release of FEA and Jungle Book FP's; it's gotta be a mess. And yes, you free diners don't help things lol! Last year FD ended the Thursday before Thanksgiving and I don't believe it had a huge impact on my ADR's. But this year since it goes through the Monday before, I think it'll have more of an impact unfortunately :( We'll see Monday!

BTW are you in either of the "November 2016 WDW Planning" FB groups? I'm in 2 :)

OMG that was exhausting writing out!!!!! Bottom line I do have a back-up plan for Thanksgiving which is the only day I would think I might have an issue with. However, neither my first nor second choice are at overly popular places so really, I assume I'll be ok.
Sounds like you have definitely thought this all through ; )

I also changed WCC to lunch instead of dinner, because I needed an open night for BOG dinner! I actually like the lunch menu better anyway. I'm really, really looking forward to this and I hope they do all their shenanigans at lunch but I'm not sure they do.
They do have the hijinks at lunch (and breakfast) too. We've been for both and while they haven't been over abundant for us I've seen others really getting a hard time. Just need to make sure you have the card turned to green.

This is why we're friends. You're a perfect Mom in my book. What fun is having a kid if you can't mess them a bit.

And we enjoyed Y&Y a couple years ago and have wanted to go back. I know they most likely won't offer any dining package for whatever nighttime show is going on at AK come November, so we'll have to just go with a FP for.........whatever.
You probably know this already but Y&Y typically doesn't release a ton of availability through Disney. If you can't get the time you want you can call the restaurant directly. You can also get the Landry's card and don't have to worry about a reservation at all.

I was very excited to see the line and took a few pictures to show you, in case anyone else feels like shopping:
Love this! Had no idea Kohls even had Disney stuff

Thanks for letting me know! I'll make sure the card is green :thumbsup2
This is why we're friends
:banana::hug:
You're a perfect Mom in my book. What fun is having a kid if you can't mess them a bit.
Exactly. And that's why I'm not going to mention the WCC goings-on to Chris until they're happening ;)
You can also get the Landry's card and don't have to worry about a reservation at all.
I did know about this and I think I'll most likely go ahead and get the card, thanks!
Love this! Had no idea Kohls even had Disney stuff
They sure do! Usually it's just a shirt or two in the Jr's and men's sections, and then occasionally Lauren Conrad does a line. Last year it was some Minnie Mouse stuff and about a month ago Alice in Wonderland stuff. I've bought a couple of her things that you don't have to look like a supermodel to wear :rotfl:But this was the first time I saw any other type of Disney collection there.

OK I am done trying to DIS from my phone. I missed the last two updates even after my reply about ADR's. :scared: I am still not a pro at DIS-ing!

11/22: lunch WCC, dinner BOG
I am so proud you squeezed in BOG!

He was miserable :rotfl:How bad a mom am I??! I think our "cousin" had just told him either to get his elbows off the table or that he had to eat all his vegetables.
Bahahahahahaha:laughing: I am sure he won't be scarred for life.

didn't want to make that last update any longer or more painful, but I wanted to tell you guys something! I wandered in to Kohl's today and was greeted with the new Alice In Wonderland line by Colleen Atwood.
I LOVE Kohls! I can always find the cutest Disney items there, including my entire work sock wardrobe. (They make us wear a certain color and no printed scrubs so when I retired my Disney scrubs I invested in cute socks)

And I don't know how I missed this post! Glad you got Boma, CP and BOG :thumbsup2 I always make my ADR's online and honestly have never had any problems. Maybe things will be a little less hectic by Monday. I will be right there with you Monday though. I added yet another Free Diner to the madness.:cool1: My friend from work has been trying to plan a trip for a few weeks now and I talked her into going over Thanksgiving week while her kids were out of school. And since I am, well lack of a better term, a nut for planning Disney I volunteered to help her make her ADR's for her party of 6...what was I thinking?!?!?!:confused3

I am in 2 Disney World November 2016 planning groups plus "The 'Orginal' Disney World November 2016 Clubhouse"
Not so sure on how to search the groups but my name on Facebook is Whitney Springer if you see me

had read your other NOvember trip report so am following this one now.

I ALSO got the Haunted Mansion ears at the oulet PLUS we recieved the friends and family coupon discount that day and they gave us a military discount - I think i paid like $3.00 ish for them??

Hope that you get everything that you are wanting for ADR's!!
