I know, I know. I feel like I'm going against the grain here. But DW and I just got back from SSR after renting points. Our reason for staying was two-fold. First, we wanted to stay at a DVC resort to see if we would like it. Second, we had 4 adults, so, we were saving $$ with no extra adult charges.

We were switching on Sunday from POFQ to SSR. I got up early to shower and drive over to SSR to check in. (Please don't flame me for being one of those renters that checks in at 7:15 in the morning to choose rooms.) I was greeted by Mary Anne at the SSR desk who went through a whole bunch of
room choices in Congress Park with me. I first asked for a DTD view. However, none were ready. She mentioned that she had a studio in the building closest to the DTD walkway and on the walkway side of the building. It was ready immediately. Perfect, I selected Room 1212, a lock-off studio. The view from the balcony was the Wyndham Palace and the Rainforest Cafe at DTD.

We found the room to be very comfortable and very large. Having the couch
is awesome. However, DSiL and her DFi did not like the comfort (or lack thereof) of the pull-out.

DW and I really loved the serenity of the resort. The quiet pool was so great. Even where there were kids in the pool, it was quiet. We also got up early one day to spend an hour at the quiet pool waking up. It was heaven.

We knew before we went that we wanted to buy DVC. The questions we had were where, how many points and when.

We know that buying at SSR would be great. Our points would last an extra 12 years (good for us since we are not yet 30) and we really love SSR. If that was the only resort we could stay, we would be very happy with that.

I would be happy to answer any questions.

Glad you enjoyed SSR. DSON agree's the pull out isn't very comfortable for an adult. I also love SSR, I went to disney on 2003 and purchased before it was available for the on site tour and visiited last October and really enjoyed myself. You won't be disapointed if you purchase. We will be staying in a GV and a 2br in December, can't wait. You are smart buying in you 20's with many years to enjoy your purchase. DD bought a couple of months after I did and looks forward to all the years ahead. Susan

Ohh... I hope to "Welcoming you Home" real soon!!!! :)

Being an SSR owner makes me biased to the resort, but I love hearing when other people enjoy it! One of the things I really like about SSR is the proximity to DTD. It's really convenient.

I'm surprised that the pull-out was uncomfortable, our friends found it quite comfortable, so did I. If you've never slept on a really bad one, you may not be able to compare. Maybe the pull-out in the living room of a one bedroom is different than the one in the studios? Who knows?

Did you try the quiet pool at night? Float on your back and watch the spot lights from PI, that's relaxing. And if you ever get the chance - the spa there is WONDERFUL!

From the building I was in, DTD was closer than the carriage house. That made walking to lunch at Earl of Sandwich perfect!!

I think the pull-out was uncomfortable b/c we had switched from POFQ so DSiL and her DFi went from a double bed to a double sized pull-out.

We did not go at night, but that is a great idea!!

Glad you liked it so much!!!

We went round and round for a few days about how many points to buy (we bought in sight unseen) and finally decided on what would fit our budget for now....and yet somehow ended up with 250 lol Now that we are adding on to the family as well, I see lots of 2 bedrooms in our future so we will probably add on more in the years to come.

Good luck with your decisions about where, how much, could this possibly happen sooner, etc!!! :teeth:

I'm glad to hear that you liked SSR! I love it too, but I am biased as well. But that's ok, I'm happy about it.
I am hoping to welcome you home soon. :)

Serenity - we found that to be true at SSR too! It is so peaceful and calming! :goodvibes We also love the main pool and the two hot tubs there, although it was a bit warm for us to go in (can't quite get into the hot tub thing in 90 degree weather). Glad you like it! We're thrilled to be members here...hope to call you "neighbor" soon.

Thanks for the nice report... While I appreciate all the reports about resorts (mainly negative towards SSR) I like to keep an open mind. Seldom do I agree with the movie critics so I am sure I will be pleasantly surprised by SSR. Unfortuantly I have to wait another 11 months for my 1st trip home!

I can totally relate to your excitement towards SSR! My DH and I bought 300 points at SSR last July. We've made 3 trips home & just can't get enough. We recently took a quick trip to the World for to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. Unfortunately, my DH's company closed down & he lost his job after we had the trip all planned. We had to travel on a very tight budget but were determined to make it to our favorite destination despite the job situation. Our points are all planned out for the next two years so this meant ASMusic resort for a cheap stay. We were able to visit SSR so easily & still feel at home. Despite the fact that we stayed far away from home, we prided ourselves on several visits to Artist's Palatte & even swam in the High Rock Springs pool. SSR is a very special place & has amazing access to DD. We used DD as a bus hub to get us back to ASMusic late at night.

Everyone has their own opinion of what a perfect resort should be, I know where my heart lies!

Now, all you have to do is make it official.....call one of those DVC reps and get going on your SSR contract! :earsboy:

My wife and I stayed at SSR for the first time this past May and we loved it. After planning our trip for the better part of a year and reading how aweful the resort was, we were elated to find that those nay sayers are crazy. We read how the walk to DTD was WAY to long - it took us 7 minutes - even with the Lemon Drops we had at PI.

I think the walk from SSR to DTD is shorter than BWV to Epcot and definitely shorter than BWV to MGM.

Glad you enjoyed SSR. We love it too. It is also nice that you were able to choose your room. That is great!!!
