I love the Polynesian!!! I'm hooked!

I am glad you enjoyed the Polynesian. I know how worried you were for a while from the bad reports. It is good to hear you had a nice time. Thanks for letting us know how it was.

Aloha

Steve

Hey, Fantasia! What a surprise for your kids! Isn't the Poly the greatest! I'm in the very early stages of planning a trip for our 10th Wedding anniversary in 06 and Poly is high up on the list! Thanks for reminding us that Poly is the best! :flower: Hope your next trip is just as magical!

Heah Fantasia, welcome back, Glad Disney made a Polynesian lover out of you. As you can see from my tag, we are hooked on the Polynesian too. Was the women you spoke to in the lobby, Lipoa by any chance? What bldg. will you ask for next time. We too stayed in Aeortora and the whoosh sound of the monorail bothered me too, but the rest of my family said they didnt even notice it. You must sit on the beach to watch the fireworks, only drawback is there is no music with them. Enjoy your next trip to the Polynesian.

Hi luvmarypoppins, the bldg that I requested for my August trip is Tokelau, 3rd floor. I will not have any views of the parking lot or monorail. If that is not granted, I want Niue or Samoa. Rapa Nui is a bit of a walk to GCH, I don't think I want that. I don't mind Tonga as long as I am not facing the monorail. Where we were Aotearoa is fine, but next time I don't want to face the monorail again. Can I have Fiji facing the marina? Is this garden view?

It's funny.. I never asked the lady her name was. We talked as we already knew each other. I did let her know that we will be back in August. She did remember us from the night we had dinner at O'hana. She is a very nice lady. I like her.

The kids loved this place and they can't wait to back to Poly too!

Tokelau is a really large longhouse so I would think your odds of getting a room there are very good. :flower:

Nuie is smoking optional. We sometimes cut through it and there can be the smell of smoke in the hallways.

Tonga is the suites building.

I believe Fiji is considered garden view.

Have fun in August. Wish I was going back that soon!

Thanks for the infos!! OK... Nuie is definitely OUT! If Fiji is considered garden view then this is my first or second choice. I like walking by the marina and it is a nice walk from the pool and GCH.

Telly,
I'm glad you had such a magical trip! I love your spontaniety! I hope your kids know what a cool, special mom they have! :flower:

Thanks Laura! You made my day! Sometimes when everything is planned out and go by it, then nothing is surprising, then sometime that "fun" is somewhat taken out. Being spontaneous can be fun and exciting and adventurous!

I am so glad to hear you enjoyed a stay at the Poly!! We love it there, and a stay at WDW wouldn't be complete without a visit. I think I would make Fiji my first choice with a regular GV room, the views from the rooms are stunning! We stayed in Hawaii last June and loved, loved, loved it! There were a few little bumps, but aren't there always? We also visited WL and thought it was beautiful, but have not been able to talk DH into getting away from that monorail!
I have been following your posts for some time as you wrestled with the decision whether to stay at the Poly or not, and I am so glad you loved it, you definitely deserve some magic :wizard:

Bump! For anyone who missed reading this thread. :Pinkbounc

:Pinkbounc  POLYNESIAN...I'M COMING BACK!! :Pinkbounc

I love Poly also its just my wallet doesn't. With 2 kids its just way too much $$$$.

Until they grow up or I win the lottery I'm stuck at a value resort.

Better that then nothing.

Thanks for the bump Fantasia! I read your other reports (pop and wl) I love your point of view!!

My question for the Poly is actually for 'ohana - you mentioned you had an hour half wait - is that WITH AR? (ps?) Thanks, I just booked 'ohana for our first night, we stayed in the Poly in July, not this trip :(

However, I will say when we stayed I also requested the same longhouse as you are considering for August - I believe I've read they are "larger" sq footage wise rooms, (not that I knew it then, I requested it for the same reason as you!!) ANYWAY... when I got there at 11, she said our room was ready, and she pulled out the map and circled 2nd floor Rarotonga... from my pre trip knowledge, I knew no balcony, but it was in the 100's so I knew we wouldnt open that door!! AND I knew it was facing the quiet pool, and so close to GCH - thought I'd let you know in case you dont get your first request, look close at where they do put you, be willing to ask or say you dont want to face the monorail, that you'd be willing to wait if another room could become available!! :goodvibes

Thanks for the tip eeyore45! I think I changed my mind to Fiji. I like this building a lot. I hear it is a garden view. I want to face GF and the lake to the right side. You have the beach to yourself kind of. And if I don't get the GF view, then I don't mind the marina view and the volcano view and I will stil be able to see the lake to the left side. I like strolling along the marina. I feel Aotearoa and Fiji is tucked away from the crowds. I like that seclusion feeling. ::crossing fingers:: hoping I will get Fiji! Then if I get Tokelau, then I am fine with that as well. Important: non smoking and higher floor and no more monorail view (just due to the noise at night only).

I can't believe how close Poly to GF! We were going to walk to GF just to walk around there, but my daughter was too tired, she just wanted to play in the sand.

BTW... I saw a few kids SWIMMING in the lake! The whole body! From head to toe! YIKES! :earseek: The father was right there. I think I heard him say "don't go too far" or "don't go too deep." Maybe he didn't see the sign. But doesn't it occur to him that his kids were the only ones in the water? Anyways... I hope they didn't drink the water from there and get sick.

Sorry I forgot to answer your question.

We didn't make a reservation. We were coming from MK. The lobby were packed! They gave us "the kind" ("pigeon" talk for "whatchamacallit" in Hawaiin) the one that lights up when your table is ready.

So, we just walked around the ground and let my children play in the sand, and then we went window shopping and walked around the lobby and hang around the place watching the guy sing and play guitar. And this is when I made my reservation to stay for the following night at the Poly. And we did just that. Poly for the whole entire day while staying there.

The Kona Cafe was packed as well, so it was pretty crowded on the 2nd floor.

I already have my AR for O'hana for breakfast on our coming trip in August. I think I need to make one for dinner as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about which building you end up in...especially since this is one of your first stays at the Polynesian. When you return again - and I know you will - you will begin to develop your own preferences based on your personal likes/dislikes and disney habits. My suggestion would be to take 1/2 hour or 45 minutes out of one day and walk around the grounds - walk through some other buildings you're curious about and check it out for yourself. I do this every trip just for fun. Walking around the resort is one of my favorite parts of every Disney vacation.

Each building has positives and negatives - it's up to you to figure out which one suits your needs best.

One thought about Fiji - the luau at night can tend to be fairly loud, but the views can be very cool.

Don't stress about the buildings though - whatever you get, you'll enjoy - particularly since everything will still be new to you. I would only try to avoid parking lot views and Niui, if you are not a smoker.

Good luck

Thanks so much for the great infos! I still have my eyes set on Fiji. I did walked around the grounds and I just find Fiji a nicer location for me. I enjoy strolling along the marina. So either side I get (if I get Fiji) I would be happy. Any bldg at Poly is better than no bldg at Poly!

:) Don't worry... I won't stress out on what bldg to get or bldg I am going to get. I am just so thrilled that I am heading back to "Paradise". Heck, I will be happy enough to stay on one of the hammocks!! I get the best view!! The fireworks, Cindy's Castle, I get the whole sky and the moon. I get all the sunshine all around me!! :teeth:

Thanks Fantasia!! :goodvibes

I know what you mean, its not really "Stress" about the building - for me its more about "excitement"!! I get so excited just looking at the different "possibilities"!! I so agree about the no smoking and "highest" level!!

How cute your dd must've been playing in the sand!! My dd loved the poly so much (even when the volcano pool closed) I teased her, we could've just made a reservation at any hotel - as long as they had a "cool pool"!! :rotfl: Seriously, it was hard to tear ourselves away from the Polynesian to go back to a park!! I will say standing in the pool, looking out at the castle while wishes was on, was truly magical for us!!

Oh, and one night we left MK by boat, and wouldnt you know it - the Electric Water Parade was going by!! Now you can see the barges, so you'll want to see it first from the beach, but it was cool to be in the lake at teh same time!!

Fantasia:
I have been reading your reports with interest because we are staying at the Poly in April 06. :cheer2: Thanks for all the great info.

I was wondering what time you got seated at O'Hana's ( I assume the fireworks were at 10pm?) We have friends visiting one night and it would be great to see the fireworks while we were there. Where there many tables that could view them? :confused3

Thanks

If I remember correctly, we were seated at about 8:30 (I know such a late dinner for me and the children- but it was soooo worth it!!) I know we were there for one and a half hour!!

I am sooo glad we ate slow!! I honestly didn't expect the fireworks during our meal. I didn't know that you can see the fireworks from O'hana, I didn't know Poly much (It was our first visit at O'hana and our very first time staying there). I am glad our server kind of disappeard for awhile, because if he gave us our dessert right away, after dessert we would have left and missed the fireworks. I think the server knew that the fireworks was about to come, so he stalled for a little bit to give us our desserts. LOVE THEM CREME' BRULEE!! (not included in the meal price- what is included is the fresh pineapple). So once we recieved our desserts, then the fireworks started. Just perfect... perfect timing!! So it was very "magical" for us! The children just loved it!! If you have kids, have them join...I forgot the lady's name with her Ukelale. Anyways... join the fun!! Everyone there is a "cuz." (cousin).. it's a Hawaiian thing! ~ Everyone there is treated as part of the family~ O'hana is the perfect name for that place!!
